I read this book in the early 80's, I think it was new at the time but I'm not sure. It is a children's picture book about a child losing something, a toy I think and finds there is a land where all the things you have lost go. I remember it having very detailed illustrations.

The land of lost things is possibly it, but I can't find anything with more than the front cover. It's the pictures I remember most clearly and if it was it, then it was a different edition to that one. The pictures were very rich in colour, glossy paper like more modern picture books. I suspect it was published between 1980 and 1984. I can remember each picture having so much in it you could spend ages looking at them.
