ABANDONED. Man living in the woodsthat keeps chasing after a fox

Hi, I'm looking for a book that is about a man who maybe named Sol or Saul, who is French and that lives out in the woods/country in cabin and keeps chasing after a fox he calls "monsieur reynard" the fox is eating his chickens and the main character wants to catch the fox. Their are chapters about him going out hunting and things of that nature. The book was wrote before 1989 because I first read it when I was in grade school and the copy was pretty worn then I would assume the school got it sometime in the late 70's early 80's. I would guess the story was set between 1920 to 1950. The book has a few illustration/drawings, I believe the cover was purple with the picture of an old truck driving down a road. The book is not very long maybe around 100 pages and may have larger print to make it easier for children to read.

I don't know if this helps but there are lots of online references to fables that have a fox called Reynard. Google *Reynard the fox*

It is similar to that story, but this book is set between 1940 to 1970, the main character drives a pick up truck in the drawings
