"One day he would leave this place... he would surprise all those who had underestimated him." (18) Thor is basically in a Cinderella story where he is the youngest son of which is completely neglected by his whole family. His one dream is to be able to serve in the legion and leave his family behind him. This theme seems all but uncommon, some would way overdone and cliche. I believe that the reason there are so many of these types of stories is because of the fact that this is the most common real life scenario. Most people could give countless examples of how they felt neglected or used, so when they are reading a book like this it gives the reader that level of relation as soon as they open the page which keeps their attention. Everyone wants a story that they can relate to in the first, but I feel as if they continue reading to find the resolution that they themselves are after. I for one love listening to Eminem for this very reason. The words that he speaks are meaningful and they can relate to a lot of people, some in small ways, others in very large and concrete ways. For me, this first chapter is the fish hook that I will never stop biting on because it does not just stimulate me on a intellectual level but rather an emotional level that far surpasses anything else. Although the outcome is always obvious, it is really the climb that most interests me. Nothing is ever given with these types of characters, they have to make many sacrifices to be given any opportunities.
