I just finished Out of the Easy and am undecided about it. I felt like many of characters were a bit one dimensional, or fit a type too well (the hard madam with a heart of gold, the kindly driver who is on her side, mean rich guy, nice rich guy). That being said, I enjoyed reading it so maybe that is okay! Anyone else's thoughts? Who would you recommend it to, what with all the non-graphic prostitution?

I re-read it and many of my high school students (gr. 10-12)who had read Between Shades of Gray (it was a Reading Olympic book in our school) absolutely loved this 2nd book. They loved Josie and Cokie and hated her mom and Cincinnati and the historical setting.
Good to know... I could definitely see some of my kids liking it. I think some of them will really relate to Josie. And they did love Between Shades of Gray.
I liked this book, but Interestingly enough I have had 2 copies of it on my shelves for almost a year and they have never gone out. With that said I was reading it last week and talking it up with students and a girl who is not a regular reader wanted to know what book I was talking about and checked out our 2nd copy, so maybe it was just overlooked. It was just chosen as 1 of the books for Illinois's Abraham Lincoln book award - we'll see if that helps sell it.
I LOVED this book. I thought the characters were great and the story grabbed me instantly. This is SURE to be a teen favorite for years to come. Fantastic!
My library club just skyped with this author yesterday and she was FANTASTIC! I would highly recommend her if you are looking for an author visit.
I liked this book, but I didn't love it as much as I expected to. The story was good, but I agree with Lucie's comment about the characters. It also seemed like there was a lot going on...maybe a few too many subplots? Having said that, I still found it to be a quick and enjoyable read and gave it 3 stars.
