Thanks everyone......its great help......There will be a lot to read for a long time.........

it depends on which type of angle you prefer the story to go, though romance is often an inescapable prospect of a story.
try Glass Houses (morganville vampire series) if you like fast pace stories. otherwise, if you like something special, it comes from a half-vampire - or dhamphir point of view - you should totally try Vampire Academy, it is one of the best series I've ever read.

else than those, I have always heard that Christopher Pike writes brilliant vampire story, you can totally give that a try.

Christopher Pike's Thirst Series. I'd choose Vampire Academy after him.

Hellsing. Period.

I'm working my way through The Vampire Diaries books. I have to admit the first one was a bit slow to get through, but they get progressively better. I read Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and I love those too. The Sookie Stackhouse novels are GREAT. I love vampires, probably my favorite genre for anything. Guess that's why the book I wrote is about them, lol.

I do love the vampire animes/manga too. Vampire Knight, Hellsing, Black Blood Brothers.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Vampire Academy, A Bites' s Tale, Morganville Vampires, and Captured are already recommended, I second those.

My Blood Approves is also a good series to try.

Sookie Stackhouse books are PURE entertainment but not much substance, The Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles BY FAR best vampire books.

Like others have said. It depends on what you like. For me, I like books that are dark. My favorite Vampire books are Trisha Baker's "Crimson Kiss", "Crimson Night", and "Crimson Shadows". The third, not so much. But I really enjoyed the first 2.

Tina Folsom, Scanguards Vampires series. For MA, great romance series. IMO.........

Twilight is like my first love in books. So it's irreplaceable to me. But Vampire Academy series is also great!

I do like a good vampire book so thank you for creating this thread. Lots of recommendations here which I hope to use when choosing my next book.
I think The Historian should also be on the list.

After reading Vampire Academy, definitely read Bloodlines!

i loved the coldest girl in coldtown, but i also love vampire academy.

Blood of Eden is a unique spin i would give that a try. It's by julie kagawa (probably splet the last name wrong)

Haven series

I always imagined vampires to be horrible monsters. They do not come across as monsters in most of the books mentioned above. So I'm gonna go ahead and recommend The Strain by Guillermo del Torro (Director of Pan's Labyrinth and such); it's partly horror, partly dystopian future.

I enjoyed the Twilight Series, but my favorite of all time is J.R.Wards' Blackdagger Brotherhood. Action packed, and extreme spice.

Vampire Hunter D series, written by a Japanese writer but there are English copies available. It's really good but even though he looks stunning there isn't much romance. It's my favorite vampire series. Also there are lots of vampires in the Dresden files but they aren't the main thing. If you are interested in more than books i suggest Hellsing, my favorite animated series.

I think the best vampire book is Dracula by Bram Stoker

I personally LOVE vampire academy not only is it exciting but there is also lots of romance!!! If you haven'r read about Rose you have never read about a great female character, not only is she fiercely loyal,"spicy", cool, and a great dhampir, also a great protector for Lissa but the best is that she cares about Lissa more than her own life.Though in the last books i got mad at her i mean she kind of abandoned her:( i would never do that not even for love! I mean Lissa is so sweet!

Trisha Baker's Crimson Kiss

Thirst by Christopher Pike

If you mean based only on vampires then I would highly recommend VAMPIRE ACADEMY. that is without a doubt one of my all time favorite series!

Like Paige said, it depends on what you like. Young adult? Adventure? And do you want your vampires to be the good guys or the bad guys?

If you like funny, I recommend Vamped by David Sosnowski. Christopher Pike's The Last Vampire series started out ok but fizzled out by the end. Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian was really good if you like adventure, travel logs, and folk lore. It's probably my favorite. The Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko is also really good. Kind of about good versus evil and what that means, though only a few characters are vampires. The book focuses more on magicians and shapeshifters.

Personally, I like Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampire series the best.
Rachel Caine's Morganvilles are also good.

Agree with the Morganville vampire series, but you do need to start at the beginning with Glass Houses,

If you like a lot of sex in the mix then Kresley Cole and J R Ward are worth a read

I have recently finished The Immortal Rules - Julie Kagawa and the follow
on book,The Eternity Cure, wow that woman tells a good story from the start to the very last sentence in both books. I think it is going to be just a set of three the next one due this April.

.
UPDATE - June 25th

I have been reading the Vampire Academy series (Richelle Mead)
as reccomended on here, ooh its a good series just on the 4th book
Spirit Bound I am so enjoying it all, thanks everyone

.

I'd go with The Sonja Blue novels by Nancy A. Collins.

Starting with:
Sunglasses After Dark

Vampire Academy is the best ever ever ever

The Hunt - Andrew Fukuda is also absolutely great!! I've only read the first book though, but that is a MUST READ.

I agree, the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice are the most in-depth vampire stories. They span hundreds of years and create a rich history with varied and fascinating characters that come in and out of each others' lives. One of my favorite series of all time.

Chelsa Quinn Yarbro's Saint-Germain books.

Depends on what you're looking for. Hellsing is good as is Vampire Hunter D. If you like romance, Anne Rice books are good as is some of the Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries (also known as True Blood.)
I prefer to watch my vamps rather than read about them, so I'm sorry I can't be more help.

Lynsay sands- Argeneau vampire series

I second the Morganville Vampires, Vampire Academy, and Anne Rice's books.

If you want something short and sweet, A Bite's Tale is a retelling of Cinderella and it has vampires and werewolves. Definitely worth the read!

A dystopian type of vampire book I enjoyed is Captured. Really well written and thought out.

The Vladimir Todd books

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice, then a few more in her series, but not all the way to the last in The Vampire Chronicles.

Cecilia Johnson I'd have to agree with Julie on all accounts. ...more

Ann Rice

i'd say Anne Rice's vamp novels, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and/or Blood Like Poison by Michelle Leighton

The Vampire's Photographthis in my opinion is the best vampire book for a younger teenager.

Have anyone read 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King?? It is one of loveliest modern horror vampiric novels. Barlow is one of finest vampires.
