Tom Mueller | 305 comments Gage is I think the ultimate scariest character for me, precisely because he is so innocent. Mystic tradgedy - not internal evil - causes him to . . .

message 2: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Yeah, Gage was creepy in the end.

I just watched the Misery movie (still NEED to read the book!! Can't wait to go to the library!!) and I think Annie is the scariest by far.

Scary-the Crimson King!

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I think Margaret White (Carrie's mother) is terrifying. Her religious fanaticism makes her borderline insane, and if that's not scary, I don't know what is.

message 5: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I think it's a tie between Margaret White and Annie Wilkes. They are both people that could really be walking around in their fog of insanity. Heck, one of them could be my neighbor! I don't find the supernatural stuff to be scary. (well, Salem's Lot vampires, but...)

message 6: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh yes, Annie is definitely scary!! Good call.

message 7: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I can't remember his name, but the husband in Rose Madder too. He was so...methodical, and in a position of respect. A wife beating policeman...blech!

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Norman Daniels...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Charlie Pickering from Insomnia, as well as the doctors (Whose names escape me for now...) from the same novel...

message 10: by LinBee (new)

LinBee The creepy Christian lady from The Mist. Can't remember her name, Mrs. Hellfire and Brimstone. She got everyone in the store believing her after awhile.

message 11: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Yeah, LinBee, she's scary for the same reason Mrs. White is scary. There's a religious zealot in Cell, too. I wonder how many of those irritated Mr. King to make them pop up all over...

message 12: by LinBee (new)

LinBee It's true. Either that or they scare him too.

message 13: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I agree with Becky -- King's very first "scary" character - Margaret White - Ultimately, she caused the entire action of the book

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) I agree Margaret White-Mrs. Carmody & Annie Wilkes are scary for people. But for supernatural, Pennywise & Randall Flagg take the prize! R.F. is all over the place & i'm not so sure P.W. isn't far behind, you know he can take different shapes.

message 15: by Andy Johnson (new)

Andy Johnson | 3 comments I'm reading IT right now, and the whole idea of a Pennywise/It actually existing in our real world, not just inside our imaginations, creeps me out. The idea of being able to morph into our worst fears, and having only children, and not adults (with certain exceptions), be able to see him and the effects he has.

message 16: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 305 comments This is a major premise of Peter Pan and Wendy. To a lesser extent, Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz.
Old basic theme, with King's wonderful twist to IT (pun)

Maya (mrskitty) | 50 comments ya i agree with kandice and IraGirl Annie Wilkes is by far the scariest just imagine been in Paul Sheldons situation i would hate it just thinking about it makes me shiver ......*shivers*

Kandice | 4387 comments Maya, I just wanted to say I ADORED Ackles as Alec on Dark Angel. Not on topic, but...:D

Maya (mrskitty) | 50 comments ive never seen him on Dark Angel only in Supernatural and Smallville and in the movie My Bloody Valentine loved him in both he so hot isnt he *sighs* lol

message 20: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I've never seen Supernatural, but did watch Smallville when he was on. You should definitely try to catch the second season of Dark Angel somewhere. He's ummmmm...pretty perfect!

I am also a big Supernatural fan and have the first three seasons on DVD. I have the premier of season five waiting for me tonight on my DVR. :-) I have enjoyed Jensen's performances in all of the TV shows and movies mentioned thus far in this thread. I have to say that he and Jared have great chemistry on Supernatural and it is by far his best gig. They really do seem like brothers and they are good friends in real life. They also make quite the comedy duo. I would love to hang out with them. You should start a Supernatural thread on here, Maya, as I'm sure there are quite a few Supernatural fans on here!

message 23: by Maya (new)

Maya (mrskitty) | 50 comments ya i love his performance in supernatural he is brilliant in it and they way he cares for his family is so moving absolutely adore him

message 24: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Oh my god SPN fans are taking over the thread! :D

Tom Mueller | 305 comments moderator - this being a SK FAN page, can you ask that OT comments be labelled as such (or suggest they start their own fan page?)
with respect,

Sometimes our topics do get a little off topic. I do keep an eye on it but admit I haven't checked this thread. If you guys want you can start a thread in the off topic section of the group! Also there is a TV group on goodreads that I am apart of that is excellent for discussing shows. Thanks for pointing this out to me Tom!

message 27: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Boo (betsyboo) | 195 comments I don't think that discussion was OT...

message 28: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Rob started the off topicness in The Worst Stephen King Book thread ;)

Rachel | 701 comments Rob wrote: ""Off topicness"? Is that a word?"

it is now :)

message 31: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Tom wrote: "Gage is I think the ultimate scariest character for me, precisely because he is so innocent. Mystic tradgedy - not internal evil - causes him to . . ."

Im inclined to agree, he is creepy. But then so is the creepy woman in misery. Her names escaped me but y'all will know who I mean.

message 32: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Annie Wilkes?

message 33: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Lol yeah thats the one!

message 34: by Maya (new)

Maya (mrskitty) | 50 comments Annie Wilkes is the one from misery id hate to be in that situation loved the book and the movie ive read it ages ago though

message 35: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Yeah me too. She freaked me out quite a bit in the book but then even more in the movie. Kathy Bates was Annie Wilkes.

message 36: by Maya (new)

Maya (mrskitty) | 50 comments yes and she did a very good job she won an oscar for her performance in it too

message 37: by Yassemin (new)

Yassemin (yas666) Didnt know that but its understandable. She was fab. Need to buy that film, not seen it in a long long time!

Heather (laladypoet) | 4 comments o hai, comment nazi.

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) Thanks Heather for resurrecting this site. I hadn't noticed the comments from 09/13 to 09/15. Seems Rob was trying to act like he never gets off topic. LOL Hell he does it as much as anyone over here. That's one of the reasons i like this group, we may get off topic sometimes, & we may have some colorful disscusions from time to time, but we always get back on track, & hold no grudegs.

I believe i've named several of Kings women as scary, so how about i name a man. I love the character of ROLAND. But he is a very scary character.

message 40: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 305 comments I may have said this before.
GAGE scares the crap outta me after he's resurrected.

message 41: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) I watched this movie a few weeks ago, all cut to bits, but GAGE was still scary.

message 42: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 305 comments "OMG, he's E . . . " he thought/said just about the time his mind totally snapped, his hair turning snow white . . .
I Shudder thinking of that paragraph.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I just read IT so i think the possesed clown is the scariest

message 44: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) Yeah Pennywise is the scariest, but he's also very bad. Whereas Mrs. Carmody, & Margaret White are very scary, their not necessarily bad.

I have to agree with you Rob, sometimes the most revealing conversations are off topic. And we always manage to get back on topic, so what the hell right?

message 45: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments I think Betsy had pondered this question in another thread. Stilson is a really creepy character.

message 46: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments Rob wrote: "She did? Remember which thread?

I find ruthless people who will squash anyone and anything to obtain power/control to be very frightening. In a real-life way."

yeah so do i...ummm...maybe ask Betsy? i know she said it

message 47: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Rob, it was in Under The Dome. Not to spoil anything, but there is a similar situation in that book. I was on the side of thinking that in this day and age, we would not be quite so quick to actually murder the bad guy. Especially since the entire novel takes place in a matter of days. Look how long it took Johnny to do it.

message 48: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 305 comments We ponder similar potential actions in the UTD thread too.
Rachel wrote: "I think Betsy had pondered this question in another thread. Stilson is a really creepy character."

message 49: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I would have to go with Annie Wilks, Carrie's mom and so far Big Jim in Under the Dome.

message 50: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 49 comments I have only read ROSE MADDER and CARRIE.
Id have to say Margot White is disturbing, yes. But Norman Daniels is scary. THe scariest by far.
(But i am going to read about Annie Wilks soon)
