Kieran Mcleod-hughes | 3 comments I'm looking for a book series (of which I've read half a book) about a fantasy world where there are people born with the ability to use magic. However, the magic is used in a particular way (one guy can light a candle with his finger, our hero can change his weight instantly, etc..) sometimes useful, sometimes not. The arch villian is a wizard who has figured out to kill these other 'magic users' and take their special 'gift' as his own.
At one point our hero is on horseback and makes his weight instantly lighter so the horse would go much faster; he makes himself very heavy at another point to sink (through a moat?). I haven't read this book in a decade-ish or so and would like to go through the whole series. Thank you for any help provided.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments _Legend of Nightfall_ There's also a sequel, but it's a shade less good (hmm, maybe even 2 or 3? but I really wanted more in that universe, so held my nose and enjoyed it anyways). The first one is AMAZING, however (and so 'less good' is all relative - disappointing from the 'had a lot of potential' view, but better than reading (many) other books).

Although you've got it kinda backward (and I never understood this), all 'wizards' stole natal talents from those who had superpowers (since, really, that's what they are). Annnnddd, there were s'posed to be like 5-7 wizards for every natally talented - that was one aspect that I never understood, even with wizards killing each other to snatch talents, there shoulda been a much closer to equal chance that you were either a killer or a natally-gifted person. Since we only saw like 2-3 wizards, and like 5+ natally-talented (plus the several talents each that the wizards had harvested).... means we were missing like 35-70 additional wizards. :P

Re-read it tonight, 1 in 1,000 is natally talented, and 1 in 5,000 is a sorcerer with 'the hunger'.

Also, finger-lighter is from somewhere else. I think newer AD&D has that (and thus, most likely, in all the newer novels), as well as at least one other, non-related book that I can think of.

Kieran Mcleod-hughes | 3 comments Ah, it was a whIiiile ago. You are a good man. Thanks so much.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Also, while *I'm* sure that that's the correct book... you should say so (and preferably move this thread to the 'solved' folder (by clicking the edit button after the title)) so the admins can clean it up (if you can't move it yourself).
