Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments What's the form called, which we need to fill in to not pay shed-loads of tax on US sales? It's taken a while but I think I need to sort it out now.

Many Thanks
Mark

You'll want to read through this blog post as well, it explains what you need to do. Ignore the addresses she gives for the vendors though, they're incorrect.

I did something like this when setting up my KDP account, although it still says there's a 30% withholding rate applied to US royalty earnings. Can I get this down to zero by filling in another form? Confused.

Andy Elliott | 1446 comments The form should result in you having zilch tax taken by the US. If you go into the Account part of KDP (at the top of the dashboard) there's a section where you can electronically submit the form if Amazon doesn't think you've already done so. If it says tax information is complete and the with holding is anything more than 0% best drop customer services a line.

Andy Elliott | 1446 comments You'll need the number that the US IRS issued you with, btw.

Jemima Pett | 48 comments I wrote this post after I sorted it all out: http://jemimapett.com/blog/2013/03/22...

I read both the Amazon help and the Smashwords help to guide me through the process - I think Smashwords was slightly clearer, but it helps to see how Amazon want their form filled out.

It really is worth phoning the USIRS up rather than doing it on paper... just don't phone them on a holiday day like I did, and then chicken out again :)
