Bob Collopy (bobcollopy) | 4 comments Do you review and talk about books online? If so you can help the book community.

I am currently working on my graduating thesis for school. For my thesis I am helping mainly indie authors understand the book market. Due to all the changes with with the book world, authors are no longer sure what their readers want and solving this problem has become quite complex.

By filling out this short questionnaire you would be giving me data which would help me solve this problem, which in the end could mean better books for you!

YEAAAA!!

Please help!

Bob Collopy (bobcollopy) | 4 comments Due to the big shift in the book market many new authors have chosen to publish their book by themselves. This means there are a lot of authors out there writing/promoting books that are not necessarily what people want.

These authors now fill sites like Goodreads with substandard books/materials and even "annoy" book bloggers with their books/promotional tactics.

A big reason for this is not that indie authors are dumb or rude but that they have no real information or direction as to what they should do to better write and spread the word about their books.

This survey will act as part of a guide that I am creating for indie authors. It's like a how-to of sorts.

You see, with or without me, authors are going to promote their books. Without promotion people would have never heard of so many great books. It's a necessary part of getting something known. It's not really reasonable/fair to tell an author to simply publish their book and if it's really good it will somehow magically become known.

By giving indie authors more information and direction, the book community will get better books, and they can come to know about those books in a way that are not as "annoying" to book bloggers.

Will my how-to fix everything in regards to promotion? Probably not. There's never been a promotional platform that everyone loves. But it should be notably better.

In terms of "generalizing," that is very far from what I am doing. I am actually doing the opposite. According to my research, generalizing is the worst thing an author can do and connecting to real people is the best thing an author can do. So I am finding better ways to reach/talk to specific individuals and niche markets.

No general audiences here.

Bob Collopy (bobcollopy) | 4 comments I want to thank everyone who has taken my survey.

I am really happy to see the response my survey has gotten. Almost 200 people have already taken it. With everyone's help, my thesis now has much better information and far more credible.

This has really enabled me to better the book world by helping authors better develop and promote their books in a responsible way. And i could not be doing it without all of you!

Thanks so much!!!!!!

If you haven't taken the survey, it'll remain open for a few more weeks. More people taking the survey can only make the findings better!

If you want to get a summary of my findings you can subscribe to my newsletter on my site: (I don't send out much)
