Beginning The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon today. 268 pages.

The opening sentences:

It was 7 minutes after midnight. The dog was lying on the grass in the middle of the lawn in front of Mrs Shears' house. Its eyes were closed. It looked as if it was running on its side, the way dogs run when they think they are chasing a cat in a dream. But the dog was not running or asleep. The dog was dead.

Finished Saving Danny by Cathy Glass. A wonderful book, which earned 5 stars. About a young boy with learning, language and emotional difficulties, Cathy wrote about her experience in opening him up to the world and conquering what he struggled with.

Next book: The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells (131 pages). Estimated Finish Date: 12 August '15.

Jude (gowebsgo) | 75 comments Mod
Beginning The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells today. 131 pages.

Opening sentence:

The stranger came early in February one wintry day, through a biting wind and a driving snow, the last snowfall of the year, over the down, walking as it seemed from Bramblehurst railway station and carrying a little black portmanteau in his thickly gloved hand.

Finished The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells. Rated it 5 stars. Excellent descriptions and fantastic scientific reasoning in the explanations. Griffin's character is extraordinary.

Now Reading
The Butterfly Club by Jacqueline Wilson. 372 pages. Expected finish: 14 August.

Opening sentences:

There are three of us. Phil and Maddie and me. We all have fair hair cut in fringes. I once tried to cut mine myself. Whoops! We have blue eyes, and Dad says we have button noses. He sometimes pretends to pinch them but it doesn't hurt.

Jude (gowebsgo) | 75 comments Mod
Finished The Butterfly Club by Jacqueline Wilson. Rated 4 stars. As much as I dislike Wilson's childish writing, as she writes it simply for children and from the perspective of a child, I deeply enjoyed the issues she tackled in this book.

Now Reading: Hunter Killer by Chris Ryan. 424 pages.

Opening sentences:

They drove a Mercedes.
Nothing flash: a 30-year-old W123 that had once served as a minicab and which still had marks on the roof where the sign had been. Nobody was likely to stop and search an old Merc, carefully driven through the pouring rain.

Finished The October List by Jeffrey Deaver. Fantastic. Five stars. Some brilliant twists in there.

Struggling with Hunter Killer. If I can get to page 50 and still struggle to read the book, I will not read any more.

Next Book to Read:
The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer.

Now Reading: The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer.

Opening lines:

When Calvin Harper was five, his four-foot-eleven-inch mom ripped the pillow from his bed at three a.m. and told him that dust mites were feeding off his skin. "We need to wash it. Now!" On that night, his mom seemed to change into someone else, as if she were possessed by some ghost or devil … or demon.

Finished: Jordan Stryker: Bionic Agent

Next to Read: Raptor by Paul Zindel.

Opening sentences:

Professor Norak stopped dead in his tracks. This must be a joke, he thought. A few of his palaeontology students were playing a joke. Very funny.

Finished: Raptor by Paul Zindel.
4 stars. Excellent description, but the story seemed ridiculous, I cared very little for the characters, but the combination of Native Americans and Dinosaurs was decent.

Currently Reading: A Maiden's Grave by Jeffrey Deaver.
Deaver is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

Opening sentences:

'Eight gray birds, sitting in the dark.
Cold wind blows, it isn't kind.'
