Rebecca | 215 comments As readers we often gravitate towards fiction and nonfiction where we can find a bit of ourselves. For August’s reading challenge, focus on you in your reading! Find a book where the main character or subject deals with your profession or your dream job. So this month, since I am a librarian, I’m going to be reading Here Lies the Librarian by Richard Peck, a funny little book about a town where future librarians go to live and learn about the mysterious arts of library science!

Post here on our goodreads page to let us know what you found and how you are liking it!

I don't know if this really counts as my "dream job," but there has always been a certain mystique about frontier America, especially when it comes to the more adventurous and profitable aspects...say prospecting. In this regard (and in the spirit of literary preparedness for my upcoming trip to Alaska), I have chosen to read 'The Spoilers' by Rex Beach. Based on the author's own experiences in the Nome, Alaska area, the novel was a bestseller in 1906 and led to five different film versions, one starring John Wayne.

Eric | 4 comments Aside from being a librarian, another dream job of mine is to become a famous singer. A lack of talent keeps this dream a fantasy. That’s the beauty of books like, "The Soloist: a novel" by Nicholas Christopher. I can read this book and live vicariously through a musician who struggles to revive his career, while dealing with past failed relationships in a retrospective narrative.

;) That's a great series! I feel that every job should have the option to also solve mysteries.
