It sounds like the three Cormoran Strike novels written by JK Rowling writing as Robert Galbraith: The Cuckoo's Calling, The Silkworm and Career of Evil. Cormoran Strike is a private detective and ex-soldier who lost a leg in Afghanistan. He is the son of rock star Johnny Rokeby whom he loathes and a groupie mother who died of a heroin overdose, but is in contact with a half-brother, also fathered by Rokeby.
