One thing culturally interesting is that in Kala (the village traveled to by Jean-Marie Medza) it is socially acceptable to sleep with another mans wife. However the same view was not readily apparent in Medzas home village. Typically in our world sleeping with an already married person, male or female, it is cheating, and wrong. For them however, they do not care for such actions and leave it be.
Medza is facing the issue of being a virgin. Although I don't find it to be a real issue, as does a large portion of our modern day society, Medza is more of a 'bucket-list' item so to speak, for Kala's townspeople. He is a city boy, and educated, and is thought to have numerous diplomas and academic achievements. This makes him a catch, and all of the women are swooning over him. He however, does not wish to give himself (his virginity) away to any of these women. His cousin Zambo, described as a "tarzan" of people pushes for Medza to copulate with one of the many women of the tribe. Medza only wants to do what he was sent for, and is genuinely embarassed from all of the attention he receives sexually from women, and intellectually from the men.
I feel as though if all cultures and creeds of people knew of all the laws and regulations throughout the world, they would make better rules and mores for themselves. A lack of understanding results in a lack of better judgement and/or morality in my eyes. So I feel even the slightest advancement of these peoples education would better the society as a whole.
