At 17% in, omg I hope they aren't swimming in what I think. This book is great so far but I'm afraid I am in over my head with 3 grp reads this month. But I'm trying guys! :)

Welcome to SC. Hot as hell here, isn't it? I think you'll enjoy the book. Fun stuff.

Nicole | 26 comments Eleven, that's right, that's your neck of the woods!:) Not there yet though - leaving Friday. Ive been checking weather reports and yes it's scorching! I'll be spending most my time at the beach or at the condo pool, so bring it on! Lol! Thank you!

Dead Sea would make a great beach read. If you're near Isle of Palms, be sure to smile for the sharks :)

message 58: by Nicole (last edited Aug 08, 2015 04:26PM) (new)

Nicole | 26 comments Ha! Will be sure to do that! Several people I'm going with are freaking over the shark attacks, swearing off the ocean. Not me though, if I'm going to the ocean, I'm going in the damn thing! It's not like sharks have just recently arrived, they've ALWAYS been there. Lol! I live in Ohio, so the closest thing we have to an ocean is Lake Erie, and that is far from the beautiful sea.. Might get to Dead Sea while I'm there, it does sound like a great beach read!

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I fear the ocean. I still go in sometimes but I'm always all too aware that I'm swimming in the food chain and it freaks me out a little. Not just the sharks but Tim Curran's imagination has had a bit of an impact.

Went once in Key West when I was a nanny. One of the people helping the tourists yanked me away from a fish (I forgot what it was, but it was one that would have stung)--never again.

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) It was a real struggle, but I finished this today. If someone had cut about 200 pages of repetitive exposition and cringeworthy dialog, there was probably a pretty good story in there. As is, though, it was too messy for me to really enjoy it.

I'm at half way point and I'm kinda bored with similar events happening. 80% is indeed a late bloomer

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments Finished last night. Damn good book. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but between Saks basically making an insult on what felt like every other page, and some overdone exposition I couldn't quite do it. I think if it had been edited just a bit this one would have really been a classic. Still great though, Tim Curran impressed me with this one.

message 67: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Mcgrath | 157 comments Just finished it this afternoon . I really wanted to like it , I was intrigued by the premise. But it seemed to bog down with needless exposition and some cringe worthy dialog. That and let's throw EVERYTHING at the wall and see what sticks. And at over 500 pages it seriously needed some editing.

Tom | 340 comments Started yesterday and reached 50% Didn't want to stop but it was 1 am I and had to get up at 6. I will reserve final judgment until the end based on the comments but so far its only a 3* read. It is definitely creepy and suspenseful but there are only like 3 characters I care what happens too. And by that I mean I want the others to die in horrible grotesque ways!

Lena | 2673 comments I'm new but I'm going to give this a try as I did not enjoy The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I'll catch up! Promise ;)

Agree--so much repetition, combined with the constant puerile dialog, really hurt what was a pretty good story.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 2262 comments I thought it was pretty good. Maybe a tad bit too long for that kind of story. I also read it free on Kindle Unlimited :)

Lena | 2673 comments 25% in. The explosions were cool and winnowed down the characters to invest in. Menhaus has the best dirty jokes! I hate Saks with a passion and hope he dies ugly. Maybe Cook will kill him :)

Lena | 2673 comments 73% in. It's finally getting some serious scary on. "The creature was the sort of thing you whacked with a broom and swept into a dustbin, except in this place, it did the whacking.". Obviously didn't finish this month but I will keep plugging along :)

As many problems as I had with Dead Sea , I too thought the same thing when I read that article.

Tom | 340 comments As I get older the idea of being in the ocean gets less and less appealing. Give me a pool, a drink, and a paperback and I am set.
