It has been fun seeing Thomas taking charge. And I love the humor of the three unmarried nieces; their not-so-subtle jabs at their more fortunate cousins. Christian's character has taken an interesting turn.

I am also amazed at the wonderful storytelling that can be kept in a translation from German to English. So well done. I may have to move forward faster than outlined.

Agreed, I love the storytelling and the humorous bits...

“But there was not a strand of white to be seen in her [Madame Buddenbrooks'] smoothly parted, reddish blonde hair. Was that still the Parisian tint, or was it a wig now? Only Mamselle Jungmann knew..."

“Unfortunately Christian’s zeal for commerce began to dwindle after his first week on the job, and even more decisively after his second. I love the descriptions. I feel like I am there, able to see the decor and details of quotidian life in 1800s Germany. Well, in a Disney ride of it, at least!
