Over but not forgotten

I just finished Helprin's novel Winter's Tale. Winter's Tale. Breathless and thrilled to have finished the story. Not an easy read for me. The rhythm and style required a lot of focus and visualizing as it was a experience in language, wit, irony, and wonder. I hovered between worlds and enjoyed (almost) every trip to the Coheeries. Tremendous read. I must say that some chapters I skimmed which I can only attribute to a bit of unneeded (for me) narrative. I choose to not judge why Helprin chose to include the chapters but I chose to speed read a few.

In my view, for my tastes in literature, I think you nailed it, Jacqui. He told many tales in Winter's Tale. Helprin's latest book, In sunlight And In Shadow, also brought critiques concerning his verbosity, and in many respects I have to agree. But no one has yet to knock his beautiful lyricism, or his stunning cast of characters.
