Decided "Bugs" over in the Feedback group might be a better place for this.
In case anyone else wants to know, apparently author profiles that have ever been claimed don't have a space for death date. (Which causes me to ponder ...)
I usually email staff and they remove the GR author status and then add the date. As claimed profiles are for live authors it does make sense not to have died date.
Funny thing is the profiles aren't claimed now.

I wonder if a workaround would be to create a new author profile and merge?

Since that would lose blog posts and other data, it's not a good idea. It also probably wouldn't work, since the claimed marker would likely transfer over with the merge.

No, that was the strange thing; they must have been claimed at some point in the past, but not when I found them.
Oh, and I'm definitely not a super. :-D
