The finish line! I concluded my serial

There are a couple of reasons why I don't want to self-publish:1) It's complex, and I am not particularly good with computers
2) A novel needs to be properly vetted, and that can only come from publishing companies. If a book was able to get a publishing contract, it tells the reader that it's at least half-way good.
3) There are a lot of moving pieces in a novel. A novel requires professional proofers, editors, layout artists, cover artists, marketers, etc. I could get these on my own, but to get it done right, I either need to shell out a lot of money, which I don't have, or find a publisher.
4) I teach Creative Writing, and professors have to publish or perish. There is gravitas in publishing houses, none in self publishing. It looks much better on a resume.
5) I'm old school. It's always been my dream to belong to a publishing house. Self publishing does not fulfill that dream for me.
This doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with self-publishing. I just won't do it for novels. I would, however, do it for short stories, as publishing houses usually don't take those. Right now I am formatting my late girlfriend's short story anthology, and it's very difficult (emotionally and practically). She was also a professor, and short stories were her specialty, possibly the best I've ever read.
craig - would you ever consider going with one of the Amazon publishing houses like 47North? They function like trad-pub except they're not. The one downside is that they don't have much good will from booksellers... but just curious about this as I do think they're open to submissions.
Congrats on completing your serial. I have that one on my bookshelf. :) JukePop is such a great site, but I understand you wanting to move on to the next project. Please keep us posted on the anthology.

I love writing Watchmage though, so I'm moving on to novels. I don't have a publisher lined up yet (I won't self published novels), but I'm looking.
My first novel was published by Damnation Books, but they are a horror publishing house, and fantasy would be more appropriate.
I kinda went off on a tangent. Here's the link to my serial. https://www.jukepopserials.com/home/r...
