I read this in the '90s ... same plot as The Village but is NOT the Haddix book and not YA. Newcomer to the village suggests changes like using 4-wheeled carts to bring crops to market, which results in societal change ...

Diane, can you recall anything about the main character(s) -- male, female, ages, relationships? Was this a long book, a short book, in the middle? Any memories of the cover? Do you recall when/where the book was set (e.g., 1970s America, 1960s England)? What is the Haddix book you mention -- I don't see anything called "The Village" by an author with that name.
Sorry, I meant the plot was like the movie The Village by M Shyamalan. Many posters suggested the author of,the book I’m looking for was Margaret Haddix,, but she wasn’t. The book seemed to take place in medieval UK but was later revealed to be in modern times. Main character was female researcher who discovered a village of,people living with no knowledge of modern world, except, for one man later revealed to be a Vietnam vet. Mid length book, no memory of the cover. Thanks
I have been trying to help find that book for Diane, but your suggestion sounds very very close to what she is possibly looking for. I was googling every thing I could think of, but that book never came up. It sure sounds like an interesting read.

omg, you found it!!! I've been searching for years and years!! Thank you so much. The book was fascinating and ended so abruptly that I feared the author had died or something before finishing the ms. Good to see she's alive and well, and has other books I will now check out. Thanks again, everyone!
