What does the Beta reading cost, or is it promotional?

I would use a fresh pair of experienced eyes having a look and providing a concise feedback, but don't wanna abuse your kind offer.
Is beta reading for prepublished works or is still applicable for published ones? Don't want to sound like an alien, I just never worked with beta readers before -:)
