Finished: I absolutely love J.K. Rowling! I love that she completely created this entire world, not just a story. She leaves nothing out. (view spoiler)[ The Weasley's standing in as Harry's family was heartening. They have shown him so much love. The death of Cedric was horrible. I hate that Harry had to see death again. The change in the feel of the books begins here and Rowling does it amazingly. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 4: I love this book. There is so much in the book that wouldn't fit into the movie. (view spoiler)[ I love Ms. Figg and her awkwardness. The guard that comes to get Harry is great. Kinglsey Shacklebolt and Tonks are two of my favorite characters. And although Mrs. Weasley makes it harder on Harry sometimes, I am glad he has someone who loves him like a mother. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 20: I love how Dumbledore has so many working behind the scenes. Umbridge can hardly stand being out of the loop. (view spoiler)[ She is still absolutely horrid and I truly feel she is one the my top disliked characters! I had completely forgotten that Harry and the Weasley twins were banned from Quidditch. HP5 Ch 34: So much has happened in the story. (view spoiler)[ Grawp, occlumency, Harry realizing his father was as arrogant as Snape claimed... I feel so bad for Cho, but so much comes to light as Umbridge loses her mind. She sent the dementors! Poor Harry is attacked from all fronts. (hide spoiler)]

End: Harry's circumstances just breaks my heart. Poor kid can't catch a break. (view spoiler)[ He does an amazing job with the DA and they are actually able to use it. Voldemort uses his connection with Harry to plant a vision of Sirius. And of course, he loses the only other parent he thought he had left. At some point I would feel defeated, but never this kid. Oh, to be a Harry Potter virgin again... ahhhhh. Well, I guess after reading it 8 times (maybe more -- I've lost count), that ship has sailed... I'm just waiting for my daughter to get old enough to buddy read it with me... this may be my year. :).

Ha! Ya, when I was in grad school. I hadn't read fiction in years -- only political science books. After attending a wedding in Switzerland, someone's roommate stuck the first Harry Potter book in my hand for a transatlantic flight. I may not have read it, but I was stuck in a plane, so... I read it in one sitting. The second and third books were out then, so I bought them and gobbled them up. I read them all a few times waiting for the fourth to come out. The fourth was/is my favorite book of all time. I was blown away! Then I kept re-reading the whole series each time a new book came out. By the time the 7th came out, which I have only read once so far, I had gone through the series so many times.

I never considered the Harry Potter books to be children's books. There is so much depth in the books. I can't imagine my 10-year-old daughter could possibly get out of it what I got out of it in grad school.
