Nurse Nightmare | 59 comments Hi Guys,

Trying to locate some books that are obviously a lot harder to get then I first anticipated, they are as follows -

1. The Cipher by Kathe Koja
2. Cows by Matthew Stokoe
3. Killer Fiction The Sordid Confessional Stories That Convicted Serial Killer G. J. Schaefer by G.J. Schaefer

Also being in Australia a lot of things wont be posted here... Can someone please point me in the right direction to pick up these beauties?

Thanks heaps guys :)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments The first 2 I saw on www.abebooks.com, but they are a bit pricey! Depends on how bad you want 'em and how much dough you are willing to spend. Shipping to Australia might cost ya too.

Nurse Nightmare | 59 comments YAY!!!!!! picked up Cows and The Cipher both from abebooks.com and got them at the cheapest rate I have found so far got each one for $30AU inc postage, pretty happy about that, now I just have to wait 4 weeks lol!!

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Happy you found them at the lower prices. I'd tell you to enjoy them, but I'm not sure that would be fitting. :-D

Ben Rowe (benwickens) | 13 comments This is why ebooks are very much the way to go. You could get them all on ebook for a few aussie dollars (the cipher is $4 aus$ for instance). You can get an ebook reader for as little as $30 second hand and then you can get all sorts of books that are otherwise hard to get or a lot more expensive without breaking the bank. I appreciate that not everyone wants to read on e-readers but it is worth thinking about just for all the genre rereleases and for bargains on recent publications.

message 9: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments That is the great thing about having an e-reader. Obviously I don't buy as many books as I used to, but the "real" books I buy I consider important enough to add to my "real" collection. But there are very few I consider worthy enough of putting on a bookshelf.

Nurse Nightmare | 59 comments I think with kindle I will get shorter novels on there from now on eg 200 pages or less to save money that way, but bigger ones I think I would like the hard copies :)I have a lot of room on book shelf still hahah!!

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments If you "enjoy" Cows, you're not right in the head. :-)

haha indeed I have heard it is quite... I don't even know the correct word, will disturbing cut it??

message 14: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Neh. But make sure you read it anyway.

Hi Tressa, I laughed when I read your post because I find that I am the exact same way! I think I bought 6-7 hard cover books last year and all the rest were Kindle or library.
I have had Cows on my list for some time, think I'll buy that for Kindle soon. $30 seems like a lot of money for that book.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Hudson, for some odd reason, the bigger my houses get, the less shelf space I have! I have whittled my collection down to some favorite classics and general fiction, my beloved poetry books, some favored childhood books, and the rest is horror that personally means a lot to me or is difficult to find so I grab them when I see them, e.g.—my Michael McDowell collection, the books of Jack Ketchum, Elizabeth Engstrom, etc.

Speaking of Ketchum I also found myself a paperback copy of the girl next door, waiting for that one to come also!! Thought it might be worth holding onto that one :)

Jack Dixon I am having trouble finding a hardcover of Swan Song by McCammon, Wasp Factory by Banks, and Hell House by Matheson. I am assuming because they're classics, hardcovers would be pricey. Am I write?

That's funny to me because I like the hardcover on the kindle. The bigger books are hard for me to hang onto (such as IT in hardcover, my gawd!) So I like to get the bigger ones in kindle

I just saw a 1st edition signed Swan Song at a Half Price Books for $400.00. Looked to be in great condition, but of course was behind a glass case, so I didn't get to pick it up. Wasp Factory is available online starting at about $40 for the HC. Cheaper if you don't mind ex-library copy (which I always thought was horrible because somebody probably stole it). Hell House is about the same price as WF.

Jack Dixon I just prefer hardcover books over paperback. I love the look feel bulkiness compared to the. paperbacks which are usually too small for my comfort.

message 23: by Jack (new)

Jack Dixon I wished I could afford those prices. lol! I recently found that the thrift stores such as Salvation Army and Goodwill have the rare first editions for $1 or 2. Found a 1st edition Salem's Lot hardcover a few weeks ago for $1. Saw the movie but haven't read the book.

message 24: by Bill (new)

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments Salem's Lot is an excellent book and much better than the movie. You can't beat a first edition for $1! I would haunt the thrift stores and maybe you can get lucky with the other ones you are looking for.
