Rebekah Mckerley In the book Insurgent, Tris continues to fight against erudite's attempts to kill the divergent and take over the government. She struggles with nightmares about killing Will and her family dying. She keeps her struggles to herself, though, which ends up causing a divide between her and Tobias. Tobias reconnects with his mother, who is now factionless, and learns that the factionless may provide enough help to defeat erudite. Tris and Tobias are on the run from the erudite leaders, and visit the different factions. After Erudite starts killing dauntless people, Tris turns herself in as a divergent in order to stop the murders. Jeanine then runs tests on Tris to try and find a serum that can control the divergent. She tells Tris that she is going to kill her when she is done running the tests, but thankfully by then Tobias has created a plan to defeat Erudite. The day comes for the battle, and the factionless help the divergent to overthrow Jeanine and the erudite. In the end they find a video that explains why their society was created in the first place.

Abby Granbery | 34 comments Constantly, reporters were at Jackie and Warren's house and would even follow Jackie around. One day they were especially heavy and Jackie wondered why. She found out that her sister-in-law, Diane (who died and killed Jackie's daughters) has a husband who they never really talked to after the accident. There was no need. He lost his wife and one of his kids and he only had his son left. Jackie and Warren found out that he is participating in making a movie about this whole situation and he would get a lot of the money. Jackie was horrified that he would agree to something so awful. They planned to name it "Something's Wrong with Aunt Diane," which is the last thing Emma said to Jackie on the phone right before they died. Jackie blew up at her brother in law and only made things worse.

Jake Ward I am reading a new book called Mud, Sweat, and tears. It is an autobiography on Bear grylls. The book is extremely interesting. The beginning starts with Bear explaining the crucial role his sister played in his life at a very young age and how that affected him as he grew up. His sister was basically his mother because his real mother was too busy to take care of him. His sister would always show him off to others and this lead him to find peace apart from others when he grew older. Bear captures the attention of the reader at this point in the book. He explains why he has this passionate love for the outdoors. From a readers standpoint, it is intriguing to understand where the roots of his passion for the outdoors come from.

Rachel Morris In the book I am reading, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, Liesle's family is hiding a jew in their basement. Liesel says his hair looks like fathers, and he writes a story where in all of the drawings he is drawn as a bird. He keeps saying that there are "standover men" in his life, but after he meets Liesel, he says that the best standover man isn't a man at all (I think referring to Liesel). A bird can be a symbol for freedom but he has been in hiding almost all of his life, being watched by "standover man." Liesel being his next standover man is significant, because maybe Liesel will be the first to help him escape hiding and fly like he is supposed to.

Jake Ward Bear continues to talk about the impact his father made on his life. He said he, "loved the fun side of Dad, and everyone else seemed to love him for it as well." Bear informs the reader that a large reason his father was so amazing was because of the lack of a good father his grandfather was to his father. His father had a tough upbringing and he spoke of how much he admired his father for being so wonderful to him and those around him. This is very powerful- Bear understands the impact his father had on him and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Winston I am reading The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. The story tells of a young mouse, Despereaux Tilling, who was quite unusual from birth. Being the only surviving child from childbirth, he was abnormally small, had extremely large ears and rested with his eyes open at birth. The mouse community did not like him based on the fact he was different and did not conform.

His family tried to make him a normal mouse, but to no success. He was then free to do as he pleased. One night, he stumbled into the king and the princess. The princess, Pea, quickly picked up Despereaux and he immediately fell in love. The king then sends him out because he is a mouse, relative to the hated rats. Unfortunately, his brothers see this encounter, which broke sacred mouse code. They quickly went to the other mice to tell them.

After the council had been informed, Furlough was sent to fetch Despereaux. Despereaux did not understand the severity of the situation, and took it lightly. When he was asked if he committed the crimes by the council, he said yes, but he did not repent for his actions. As a result, he felt very brave, that is until he to be put in the dungeon with the rats.

When Despereaux is headed towards the dungeon, he has a red string put around his neck, which signifies that the rats should kill. Right before he is lowered into the dungeon, the stringmaster tells Despereaux to be brave for Princess Pea. And with that message, Despereaux is pushed into the dungeon...

Upon falling in the dungeon, Despereaux is prompty picked up by a human, Gregory. While Gregory seems to be insane, he is the prison in charge of all the mice in the dungeon. In picking him up, Despereaux realizes that Gregory saved him from the vicious rats who have come to eat him. Gregory's reason for saving him was so Despereaux could tell him stories. And so he did.

Section two, “Chiaroscuro,” begins a few years before Despereaux’s birth, with the birth of a rat named Chiaroscuro and called Roscuro. As a young rat, Roscuro nibbles on Gregory the jailer’s rope, and to deter the rat, Gregory lights a match in Roscuro’s face. While most rats avoid light, Roscuro stares straight into the flame until the light “danced around inside him.” From then on, he becomes obsessed with light, convinced it is the only thing that gives life meaning.

Martha Higgs | 20 comments I am reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. The story shows the struggle of conforming to society or finding yourself despite expectations of others. The story takes place in a futuristic land where society is split into five "factions" each representing a human characteristic. At a point in your life there comes a time when you are forced to chose the faction that you are to live in for your adult life. You aren't forced to make this depiction on your own, there is a test of questions and actions that places you in a faction according to your natural responses. Rarely a child will be stated "divergent" meaning that they are not obviously meant for any one faction. This is made a big deal throughout the book, made a dangerous place to be in. Of course our heroin Tris is labeled divergent, thus placing Tris as Well as the reader in an initial state of panic.

Annie | 19 comments So far in A Time to Dance, John and Abby are waiting to get a divorce because of their daughter's wedding coming up. They are all preparing for the wedding and meeting new family members. Nicole wants to do alot of things in the wedding like her parents did. This comments are getting to Abby and she is feeling so guilty about her marriage and divorce. John is sitting in his office and sees a picture of his happy family, he realizes his relationship with God has not been good and it might be affecting his marriage. They are all rethinking things and realizing the love they all have for each other even through this divorce. One of my favorite parts of Karen Kingsbury books is the way she ties in scripture and life lessons into the story. I love reading her books and it really helps me in my faith and situations.

Jake Ward Bear continues to talk of his love for the outdoors. He talks about how his love for the outdoors was sparked by his fathers love as well as his sister. His father came to one of his rugby matches and he wasnt even playing- he was a linesman. This gives the reader a vivid scene of love that impacts Bear.

message 61: by Jake (new)

Jake Ward Beat begins to talk about his grandfather. He was a man of his word and served in the army.. When he died, he was known as one of the most beloved man to many. He continues to talk about how much he (Bear) strives to live a life like his grandfather had lived.

Sam Johnson I'm reading the book Insurgent (Divergent #2). I haven't finished reading it yet but if it is anywhere as good as the first one, it will be incredible. The one thing that intrigues me about this book and that I can't wait to figure out is the title and the slogan. In the first one, the entire plot centered around Tris and the fact that she was Divergent. Every decision that she made hindered on the slogan of that book, "One choice can transform you." I'm very intrigued by the how the title, Insurgent, will be incorporated in the plot and how the slogan, "One choice can destroy you," will be used. I hope that at some point during this book, Tris comes out about her Divergence and fully embraces her self and her true identity.

Jake Ward Bear and his father go through an intense experiance when Bear was in high school. He and his father loved to sail and one night was very different than the others. Bear and his father were caught in a huge storm. It was here where Bear learned to accept challenges and the fear that comes along with it. This is extremely intruiging to the reader- this is another point in his life that turns him to accepting the obstacles in front of him.

Abby Granbery | 34 comments Jackie and Warren were blessed with great friends and great gifts. One friend recommended one day that they should try to have another baby. They're still some what young and it will help them. The idea was crazy at first. They thought it was ridiculous because they could barely take care of themselves, let alone another life. They were just living in depression. And anyways, Jackie had already gotten her tubes tied, so she thought it was just out of the question. A lot of their friends recommended in-vetro fertilization. That idea was crazy expensive and again, out of the question. One of their friends gave them a doctors name who specializes in in-vetro fertilization. She told Jackie to just go talk to him and see what he says. He said Jackie would be a good candidate for it, but the cost of it was crazy and their insurance wouldn't cover it. At the end of the informal meeting, he said that he would be willing to do it all for free for Jackie. She sat there stunned and didn't know what to say. She eventually agreed to it, and it ended being the biggest blessing in their life.

message 65: by Abby (last edited Apr 04, 2014 09:07AM) (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments One she was able to get pregnant, she was definitely still depressed in life. She couldn't keep taking all her medications because she was pregnant. Her life wasn't changed yet. As she was pregnant, she didn't gain much weight. Since the accident, she didn't eat very much, and when she was pregnant, she still didn't eat much. A normal pregnant woman gains somewhere between 25-35 pounds. On the other hand, Jackie gained a total of 8 pounds. She tried to run a little with her friends, but mostly slouched around. When the baby was born, she was a healthy, beautiful baby girl. Jackie loved her instantly. She wanted to use a name that had the letter E, A, and K in it for Emma, Allison, and Katie. She named her Kasey Rose. It had the letters and she was a beautiful baby girl. At first everything we'd difficult, because Jackie felt that she shouldn't love this baby. She didn't want her other daughters in heaven to think that she had forgotten about them. She still loved them and thought about them daily. This mom is so courageous and strong. She has set a great example for other families that have lost children.

Patrick In my book he discusses more types of particles. This time he is talking about force carying particles. First of all there are four natural forces in the universe(at least for now but I'm pretty sure thats not join to change). They are strong force, weak force, electromagnetic force, and the most present but yet still most mysterious force of all, gravity. Gravity is the weakest but (and this doesn't have to do with my book its just rally big news to us science geeks) the other week they detected gravity waves. Anyway Gravity is the weakest but it carries over the longest distance. strong force is the strongest (who woulda thunk, lol) and interestingly enough is the only force that gets stronger as distance increases( to a point because it holds the nucleus together but as soon as you get outside the nucleus it has no pull). It caries over the shortest distance. Next is weak force which is the second weakest force and it goes hand in hand with strong force because they are both nuclear forces and to be honest i dont really know what it does. Then last but not least is electromagnetic force which has to do with electricity and magnetism.

message 67: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Each force is carried by a particle(although they have still yet to find the particle that carries gravity but believe me they are looking). they have a hypothetical particle for gravity called a graviton. for the weak force there are three particles, W plus which is canceled out by W minus(both are weak force carriers ) and Z particle which is much larger than W plus and W minus and is canceled out by another Z particle. For the electromagnetic force the particle that cries it is called the photon. it has no mass or charge interestingly enough, which allows it to travel at the speed of light (because technically it is light). Finally for the strong force is the gluon. It is the glue that holds the nucleus together. the gluon is a set of eight particles that are not worth mentioning but its charge is zero but it has three "color charges."

Kurtis Annie wrote: "I finished my book, The Longing, by Karen Kingsbury. In the ending of the book, Cheyenne dies and Cody is devested. He and Bailey talk and finally end their relationship, even though they still car..."
If you are enjoying the book thief then you should also read Zusak's other book I am the Messenger. It's a fun easy read filled many hilarious and very serious situations surrounding a below average college dropout who works as a taxi driver.

Abby Granbery | 34 comments In Choosing to SEE by Mary Beth Chapman by Mary Beth Chapman, Mary Beth writes about her life before marriage, when her marriage begins, and their life as a family. She begins the book with a tragedy that happened back in 2008 when their youngest daughter, Maria passed away. She describes the horror she and her family felt and you feel like you are there in the book when it happened. After she describes that, she goes into her past and where she came from. She met Steven Curtis Chapman in college-- he was in a band that played on campus.

message 71: by Abby (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments Once Steven and Mary Beth met and started dating, Mary Beth couldn't be herself because she was hiding something from Steven. She had already had sex before marriage and she felt so guilty for it. Once she told him the truth, it really put a twist in for their relationship, but he was able to forgive her and they were able to move on. Loving one another and forgiveness are very prominent in the story.

message 72: by Abby (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments After they married, Steven was an up-and-coming music artist that struggled to get his name out. They were the typical newly-wed couple that struggled with money and lived in a tiny apartment/house. They lived low and the thought of having kids was so far out of the question. One day, the dog accidentally got hold of and ate Mary Beth's birth control pills! A few weeks later, her pregnancy test came back positive. That was a twist. God is always surprising us with crazy things that make us need to trust Him even more.

message 73: by Abby (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments The crazy events don't stop there. After their first born was born, Steven and Mary Beth received a phone call that their house was on fire. When they went home, they had a baby, they were poor, and had no home. Life was rough for them. Trusting God was all they could do.

message 74: by Abby (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments After having 3 kids, the idea of adoption came into their life. They really trusted God with that because adoption can be scary and complicated, but can also be the best moment ever and wonderful. The idea of adoption can be scary and sometimes even out of the question for some families. When they adopted Shaoey, Mary Beth was worried it wouldn't be the same, and that she wouldn't be able to love her like her own kids. But the second she saw Shaoey and received her in the hallway in China, she said she would have died for her instantly! God gave Mary Beth so much love in her heart for her biological kids and her adopted kids.

message 75: by Abby (new)

Abby Granbery | 34 comments 3 adoptions later, Mary Beth and Steven have 6 beautiful kids, he is successful in his music and they have a beautiful home in Franklin. Their eldest daughter had just announced her engagement, and their other son was about to have a graduation party for finishing high school. All was well with the family. One of their sons was driving into the driveway just as 5 year old Maria was running up to the car to greet him. He did not see her and mixed signals were in the air. The possibly worst thing that could happen, happened. He accidentally hit Maria. Blood was everywhere and screams were in the air. She was rushed to the hospital and died shortly after entering the hospital. The amount of pain the family was in was so great that it can hardly be put into words. Especially the pain the brother went through that accidentally hit her. It took the family a very long time to recover from the tragedy- and they still are every day, but because they trusted The Lord and still do, they know that He is in control!

message 76: by Ruth (new)

Ruth I finished Crossed by Ally Condie and the ending was very vague and open-ended. The overall book was okay.. it was very slow, but it did have some surprising events.

Just recently I finished The Maze Runner which was amazing. The book is about a teen boy, Thomas, who has been sent to a maze, with about 50 or 60 other boys. They made a camp/farm and a little civilization. With four walls all around them they are protected from the maze which opens during the day and closes at night. Their memories have been wiped and for two years they have been trying to figure out how to escape the maze. When Thomas shows up strange things start to happen, and then the next day a girl shows up. Chaos brakes out and the maze doors don't shut. It takes courage and strength of all the boys to figure things out.

Annie | 19 comments Another book I read was A time to Embrace, this book is by Karen Kingsbury. The novel starts off with a family who is perfect from the outside. The book starts off with how the couple met and how perfect their love story is. They are truly the perfect couple until their relationship gets secretly bad. The couple fight all the time and they plan for divorce. However, when they are about to tell their kids about the divorce, the oldest daughter annonces she is getting married. What I love about this book so far is because it is very honest and shows the struggle of relationships even with things look good from the outside.

message 79: by Annie (new)

Annie | 19 comments In the novel A time to Embrace, the couple agrees to stay together until the wedding is over. They find out the husband has been cheating and it makes the relationship much worse. Because their relationship is so perfect from the outside, the daughter wants her relationship to be just like her parents. This affects them so much because they realize how their relationship is not perfect. However, one night the husband is driving home after a game and is hit by a car. He is paralyzed from the waist down. However, he might live because of a miracle. This accident is what is saving the marriage because they learn to stay together. Also, the wife's father dies. This hurts them also and they start beginning to love each other again. However its still not good enough. The husband has surgery and gets better, which is a miracle. This again probes no life or relationship is perfect, however, with faith and Christ things that are broken can be fixed, slowly, but fixed.

message 80: by Annie (new)

Annie | 19 comments In A time to Embrace, the husband has the surgery and can walk again. The wedding happens after and the husband is planning on moving out that night. However, when he is moving out something hits him that he cant leave her. He loves her. And she loves him. While he is driving off she finds his journal and in the journal it says how much he is sorry for cheating on her and how much he will always love her. She feels awful and she loves him. He comes back and finds her on the pier. He goes out to the pier and they cry and forgive each other. They realize they cant get divorced and that they love each other. This book showed how everyone goes through hardship but things can be fixed through faith, patience, and forgiveness.
