S.W. Hubbard Today I created a new blog post, "Mystery Heroes to Take to Bed". Moments after clicking "publish" I realized I wanted to add something, so I clicked "edit post" and added a line. Now my post says "0 Views" and I'm not sure it got distributed to my friends and fans. Normally, my blog posts have more than 100 views right off the bat. Is there some way to relaunch it? I hate to waste a good post that I worked on so diligently!S.W. Hubbard

Thanks, as always, for your help.
S. W. Hubbard

Alex (ucbstirling) | 140 comments Hi S.W.

Since you mention it was "moments after," It's possible that the post went out close enough that our newsfeed algorithm suppressed the second story, but the blog post should have still gone out.

It may have simply been an issue of timing, but it looks like your blog post is up to about 10 views. I wonder if it would be worth making another edit now that some time has passed-- change the published time for good measure-- and see if you can get it to go out again. If that doesn't work, can you write us at support at goodreads dot com so we can look into this further?

The blog post that I originally wrote you about eventually got up to 30 views, which is really low for me, but I figured it did go out. Today, I posted a new blog over five hours ago and it still has 0 views. This seems like it MUST be a problem because I have about 30 "fans" and over 500 friends. Can you see if there is something wrong with the way blog posts are launching? Could it just be my account?? Thanks.

Alex (ucbstirling) | 140 comments Hmm... I can look into it a bit, but the updates do seem to be going out. I think it's more likely that the views counter is not working properly, and it's worth noting that the counter won't necessarily reflect views that come in from a user's update feed.

S.W. Hubbard Is the views counter not working for everyone, or just for me? How can you tell the post went out?

As a feature, it's just not particularly reliable. It's based on pageviews for that URL, so in theory I could sit and refresh it a bunch of times and it would go up one each time. If you link in from elsewhere, the URL might not track in the same way.

I'd been thinking the blog post had gone out as evidenced by the fact that it exists currently on your page-- but after looking at this more today it occurs to me that we did have some downtime to one of our back-end processes about the time you would have sent this blog post out-- it may be that the newsfeed update to your blog was indeed a casualty of this downtime. To be on the safe side, I wonder if it might be worth copying the blog content, deleting it, and posting it into a new blog post today to force through another update-- then we can track how the new post performs for you.
