I went to Vegas last week to see my grandson & read Young Bess on the way down. It was ok. Then I read The Heretics Daughter by Kathleen Kent & I thot it was fantastic! Hauntingly beautiful...Heartbreaking...facinating...One to always be remembered. Easily one of my top books of forever!

Finished Daughters of the Grail...loved it of course...I was really wishing Raoul and Bridget would end up together since most of the story was on them, Claire and Simon.

I'm embarrassed to admit I'm still plugging away at Memoirs of Cleopatra. I did read Erickson's Mary Queen of Scots book and it was her usual fiction - entertaining but a little lite on facts. I hope to read The First Man in Rome and the Greatest Knight by Chadwick.

I finished Son of York by Julia Hamilton. It was ok but kinda boring.

Now I'm reading The Time of Singing by Elizabeth Chadwick and I love it!

you can buy them from book depository uk or abebooks thats where I got mine Rosalie, Chadwick omly has two books out in the US, Scarlet Lion and the Greatest Kinght.

It's about Martha Carrier & the Salem witch trials. It is written from the viewpoint of her daughter telling it to her niece or grandaughter but I liked that part because young children feel everything in black & white, no grey feelings. I think we sometimes forget how intense those feelings were. The kind of life they lived was dirty, lonely, & mostly hopeless. As bad as what we read about the poor living at that time in England.

Anyway, as I said, it is beautifully written & it will haunt you when you are done. I loved it!

I read Rasputin's Daughter & enjoyed it. I also read THE ROMANOV BRIDE. Both were very good; but I still favor THE KITCHEN BOY

I've just recently gotten back into Goodreads after a considerable absence... so I'm currently reading "We Two" by Gillian Gill. It's a biography about Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, their lives before each other and their lives together. I saw the film "Young Victoria", and I found it extremely interesting, but I couldn't help but wonder whether or not it was very accurate. So far, I'm enjoying learning about their upbringings... haven't gotten to their marriage yet.

I had replied about progress on this book at another group and forgot Tina :)

I liked Anna a lot and am now well into book #2 Fleur. There's a lot of day-to-day details that some readers might not care for, and while the Kirovs are highly connected you aren't taken into the royal court itself, you only see it in the *sidelines*. I have a review up on GR for Anna.

I loved it. The descriptions of the characters and the setting made you feel as if you were right there with them. I thought it was an interesting moral dilemma for them to have to choose whether to stay and stop the spread or leave. It really showed you who had character and who was selfish.
  The main character was a great example of a strong woman. I really enjoyed her relationship with the minister's wife. He was something else all together.

A small village in Northern England that chooses to stay secluded, knowing they have a huge risk of dying, so they do not spread the plague any farther north or elsewhere. Very good characters.

I'd add it to my list!

I liked the premise of the book, liked the writing, liked the characters, liked everything. . .right up until the ending--I didn't particularly think that the twist at the end added to the book. Then, after reading the author notes at the end of the book, I thought that the book might have been stronger just telling the tale of the village surviving the plague without the embellishments (trying not to give away the plot too much!). Still though, I'd recommend it to friends, but with that disclaimer.

Pleasure Palace is good for a fluffy read. Still slogging through Weir's Captive Queen.

Queen Anne Boleyn Tudor. Aside from Katherine of Spain, she seems to have been the only one of the six wives with spirit and fire enough to match Henry's. Makes me consider writing an alternate history in which she lives an extended life.

We are currently reading The Lady in the Tower by Alison Weir as a group read. It's about Anne's fall and has been pretty good so far. I believe it's a fairly recent book.

I read that book last week and loved it! It really is interesting especially when dealing with Katherine & Mary. I also liked that she had a bit of a new take on Jane, it wasn't the same old, same old...

I'm usually not all that fond of NF, but I enjoyed that as well.

I am in the process of reading Marie Antoinette: The Last Queen of France and it's a good read. I finished Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII a bit ago and both of them were nice.
