The latter two names were used by Theodor Geisel as pen names. When he first began writing and illustrating children's books, Theodor Geisel combined "Dr." and "Seuss," his middle name, which was also his mother's maiden name, to create the pseudonym "Dr. Seuss." The Dr. Seuss picture books and beginning readers were written and illustrated by Geisel.
Did you know the honorary Doctor was a major producer of propaganda in favor of intervention in World War II and later in favor of winning the war. Dr. Seuss was so enraged by Italian pro-fascist propaganda that he sought a role in political cartooning with P.M., a New Deal liberal daily newspaper in New York. He denounced Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini and was highly critical of non-interventionists ("isolationists"), most notably Charles Lindbergh, who opposed US entry into the war.

What are your memories of Dr. Seuss?
