Frannie Easter | 18 comments In pages 30-60 in Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall we get a first hand glance at the typical high school mean girls. The theme of honesty really comes into play, but not necessarily for the better. The friend group Sam was in was so brutally honest and judgmental about people. Sam says "I'm about to head over to Emma Howser -she's super cheesy and normally I wouldn't be caught dead talking to her" (60) which shows an example of what one of them would say. The school that Samantha goes to seems to be a school for it is a free for all and where it is the teenagers vs. the adults. A lot of the students smoke and hide from the principal because she is out to get smokers. The girls say, "in high school you have to stick together against parents, teachers, and cops" (51). Also, on a more sensitive side Sam opens up about how she had to fight to get to the top of the social chain. She was that uncool nerdy girl that no one liked in school, yet felt no compassion for the people she treated that way. Sam and her friends have just gone to the party at Kent's house and have started to drink a bit. I can not directly relate to this situation because at CPA we do not really have a mean group of extremely popular girls. Although everyone is judge mental towards someone at some point in time.
