Bastard Out of Carolina question

I just finished reading Bastard, and the feelings and emotions that I had long harbored for the character Anney Boatwright just jumped out. The anger and disappointment that I felt towards this fictitious character was ridiculous, yet I couldn't contain myself. Because my HATE was so strong, I asked myself "Are there any redeeming qualities about this woman?". Then I thought "yes, she may be what I consider weak, but she is hard-working and really does somewhat love Bone...."...I'm so conflicted, I just want to know what others feel about this woman.
