OK so this "real life" thing kept getting in the way but this morning I made time and read up to chapter 4. I'm liking it so far but I'm a little confused about all the nationalities and the whole darkeye/lighteye thing. I guess it will become clearer as I keep reading. Onward!

I tried to watch GoT, but since I had already read the first three books, I just couldn't get into the show. Not that it isn't good, I think HBO has done a tremendous job from what I have seen of it, it's just not for me right now. Maybe I'll try again after the books and show are complete.I've got 300 pages left on TWoK and I'm planning on having it done tonight.
There are a few of the "death statements" that I think I've figured out and I'll post those and my interpretation after I'm done.
I started this today. I'm not very far in. I'm glad that I'm reading this on my nook because I've already highlighted a bunch of stuff I feel like I have to remember and I've done some flipping back to re-read. Can't imagine being able to get through this on audio. Maybe if it was my second time around I would attempt it.
@ LukeOoh, making me want to re- re-read(?) WOK again. The last few chapters really step up the pace. And those death statements always have me guessing.
I have never tried an audiobook before... Whats it like? I suppose some narrators are better than others? Do they do different voices?
Eon wrote: "I have never tried an audiobook before... Whats it like? I suppose some narrators are better than others? Do they do different voices?"Some are great and some are TERRIBLE... Like slurps, splitting, JUST SWALLOW YOUR SALIVA terrible.
I must say that Wil Wheaton's reading of Ready Player One was fantastic.
Also anything Neil Gaiman reads is bliss :)
They do different sounding voices. Pitches, "accents" that kind of thing.
Lol @ the terrible ones. I can only imagine.... Will give Ready Player One a go and see what its like.
Eon wrote: "Lol @ the terrible ones. I can only imagine.... Will give Ready Player One a go and see what its like."That works too as it's one of our group reads in March..
Eon wrote: "I have never tried an audiobook before... Whats it like? I suppose some narrators are better than others? Do they do different voices?"There's a thread here on audiobooks: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
A lot of good audio recommendations in it. Although, I do disagree with Becky's Jim Dale comments :P
Chapter 3- City of Bells:(view spoiler)
Is the artwork small in the book too? I tried looking it up on Sanderson's site, but the writing is barely legible for some. Is there some way to zoom?
Eon wrote: "Does anyone know if the pre-release chapters of WOR on Tor are the complete chapters?"Yes, they're complete. They leave out chapter 7 and 13 I think it is, but everything else is there through chapter 14.
Not at all, Katie. Some of us are just getting started. I just finished first two chapters. Yes, the story flows much better than in prologues.
Jackie, that artwork is big enough in the book but wasn't easy to read. The font was squibbly and light shaded.
Chris wrote: "Jackie, that artwork is big enough in the book but wasn't easy to read. The font was squibbly and light shaded."Blergh! Thanks, for checking.
Katie wrote: "Is it too late to join this buddy read?"I'm no where near done yet. I paused for a break.
I just got back from the library, and happened to glance through the hardback copy of WoK they had (I only have the paperback and had never seen the HB before). There is a particular map of Roshar in the HB that isn't in the PB and that really annoyed me. It would have been far less confusing for me if they had included it.
I have the book on my nook but I had to buy (rebuy actually) the hard cover. It just didn't feel right reading it as an ebook. And the book is just gorgeous.
I just purchased the kindle version, but I will have to check out the hard back version to see the map.
Katie wrote: "Is it too late to join this buddy read?"Join us! I´m only on Chapter 7.
Eon wrote: "Ok. I know there is a lot of Szeth hate, but isnt this T-shirt just the coolest?
Szeth T"
Very cool.
Lol. I don't hate Szeth. I'm just kind of over the whole cool assassin thing. But he is a Sanderson character - so maybe there will be more to him than there seems. I did order one of the necklaces a few months ago. :)
I'm on chapter 25. At the pace I'm going, I should finish right in time to jump right into the next one.
Chris wrote: "I should finish right in time to jump right into the third one..."Always so dramatic ;)
Relaxxxxxxxxx, you've been reading it for less than a week and were finishing up other things and you haven't had a chance to focus on it yet.
Just take your time and enjoy it :)
Haha....I am enjoying it.I read a good chunk yesterday, though I had to take a break when The Walking Dead happened..
Maybe I should be more careful with multiple reads.I was reading Chapter 5 last night. (view spoiler)
Of course, I could also blame Davide for planting the Sophie Turner = Shallan idea in my head.
I was reading this and Clash of Kings at the same time... talk about confusing. Reading two epic fantasy books at the same time? Not a good idea.
I've tried and failed as well. One at a time for me I guess. Except for the pre-release WOR chapters I'm currently reading. I'm shelving the Red Knight till those are done. Unfortunately they are flying by too fast :(
Sooo I just read Chapter 13: Ten Heartbeats and it was extremely good! Really an amazing action packed scene.I was looking on the net to see if somebody had given drawing-life to a chasmfiend to confront it with the idea in my head, I'd like to share with you this picture found on DeviantArt.
WARNING: The picture contains a potential-spoiler scene from chapters 12-13.

Epic!
I've been counting down the days until the WoR release for like 2 weeks now lol. I can't take the suspense much longer.
Finished with Part 1. Kaladin seems poised to become a bad-ass, and I really liked his flashback chapter with his father telling him about the importance of being a surgeon. Shallan is cool too, I love that she´s a naturalist and keeps a sketchbook - and that these sketches are actually in the book! Good stuff. Really liking it so far, the only thing I can´t really get into is the whole spren thing. I was doing OK with lifespren and rotspren but then it started getting a little silly - creationspren, anticipationspren - really?
Paolo, you and I are up to the same part. I reached the interlude last night. Had to stop myself from reading because it was already late. :(I like Shallan's sketches, but I wish they were bigger in the ebook. I would like to read the writing without straining my eyes.
I agree about the spren thing. I like the concept, but because there now seems to be spren for everything I wonder what is the purpose.

All the illustrations are on Brandon´s website, where you can zoom in all you want :)
