Jim | 21809 comments OK, I have a cunning plan but I don't know if it's possible.

I want to publish a book on kindle with Amazon. I want it free for the first week or so and then when it becomes a cult success, I want the price to go up to 99p so that I get the chance to prove conclusively that unreasonable wealth won't spoil me.

Can it be done?

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You can make it free for the first 5 days. You can't do this until it's actually published, though, which is always about 12 hours before you can make it free. Maybe publish it - you have to set a price, so your 99p will go in there. Then every 3 months you can use 5 free days so use them all straight away. You only have 5 days to become cult! Otherwise it's a case of getting it free somewhere else, like Smashwords, then getting people to tell them it's free elsewhere.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I know a few authors who offer to send pre-published copies for free to their followers/fans. Is that an option for you?

Jim | 21809 comments Thanks both
Let's see if I've managed it

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You can do it from first publishing, David. Both Jonathan Hill and Andy Barrett have done it with short stories.

Jim | 21809 comments thanks all, I have set off on the great adventure :-)

David Hadley I've been trying to get Amazon to make a couple of mine free - that are free everywhere else - but they've just ignored me.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments If you give us the links in your author thread, a few of us can tell Amazon for you David.

It's been successful for others in the past, I believe.

Thanks.

I'll go and do it now.

Does anybody know where I left my author thread?

I put it down somewhere in here, and I haven't seen it since.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Need me to bump it for you?

No, thanks.

I found it, eventually, buried down under some burnt curtains.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Wasn't me. I've not incinerated anything in ages.

I must be getting confused with countdown deals.
