1) I’m honestly right there with Shahrzad through all of it. I have to give major props to the author for hooking me into the romance and keeping me so invested in it. From the beginning, I hated Khalid as the boy-king, and, just like Shahrzad, I don’t know what exactly it is that is making me like him now. At this point, I don’t want him to die, but I truly want to understand why he did what he did and what has changed now.
2) I think his debt definitely has something to do with the deaths of his past wives. It seems as though it has something to do with magic of some sort and could even connect with the abilities that Shahrzad apparently possesses. I’m anxious to find out more about both of those things. I also think that Jalal definitely knows exactly what’s going on with Khalid, which is why he’s so casual with both him and Shahrzad.

Today, we’ll be discussing pages 128-254.
Here are our discussion questions:
1) What are your thoughts on the progression of Shahrzad and Khalid’s relationship? Do you understand Shahrzad’s struggle?
2) As Khalid grows more weak, it is alluded to that he is paying some sort of debt. What do you think that is concerning?
