How do you decide...

Which books to buy, and which to get from the library?

Which book to buy next when you have an endless supply of to-read books?

Which genre to read next?

If you are going to try a new author?

Which new author to try?

new_user I can usually tell which genre I want to read easily, and when I try a new author, it's usually because I'm interested in the premise of the book, heard something that appealed to me, liked the blurb (it's usually the author that writes these, you know) or it was rec. by someone with similar tastes.

I buy the ones I can't get from the lib. LOL. But deciding what to read next is still tough, esp. when you have a lot of new authors on the list. >.<

Lisa | 617 comments I usually don't decide by genre, but rather plotline. Genre is usually secondary. Lately, to save money, I've stopped myself from buying books unless I have been considering them for a LONG time. Otherwise I have quite a few on my shelves and the library usually suffices.
The last book I bought was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and that was an airport buy. But in all honesty I've been looking to read that one for months and haven't seen it at the library. I've been very good in my book spending lately :)
The next book on my to buy is The Girl Who Played With Fire. I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and have been dying for that one to come out.

Chasidy I go by what I call "Reader's Intuition" LOL! It's just a feeling I get.

Lauren | 244 comments I go by whats on the back of the book and the cover.. I know that's bad but hey if the cover looks good i tend to read it. I get my books from the book store cause I like to own them. And I pick them out by whats on sale or the cheapest and start from there.

Teryl Which books to buy, and which to get from the library? Right now, books I buy are from authors I know I like or if I find it for cheap at the UBS. New authors I have been trying to get from the library.

Which book to buy next when you have an endless supply of to-read books? New releases that are a must buy or good deals I find at the UBS.

Which genre to read next? This is a tough one, I just go with what I feel like at the time,

If you are going to try a new author? Usually it is someone my friends have recommended or a book I got for cheap cheap at the UBS.

Michelle (shadowrose) Which books to buy, and which to get from the library?
Well...I buy all the books I read. I use to be a library fiend but now the library gets on my nerves. The only time I use the library is when I'm at the university and I'm bored. lol

Which book to buy next when you have an endless supply of to-read books?
Well it's a tough decision, but the way my addiction works is quanity matters. So I usually grab the cheapest ones first, unless there is something on my list I'm simply craving to read.

Which genre to read next?
Well it all depends on my mood really.

If you are going to try a new author? Which new author to try?
I usually get a fair amount of recommendations first, unless it's something that catches my eye and then refuses to let it go. I personally love when that happens, it's like the book is begging you to open it and I've yet to find a bad book that way.

stormhawk | 1184 comments That darn recommender at amazon.com!

Thing has got me too pegged.

Every now and again I get a recommendation from a friend, or one of the nurses at the hospital that works out entirely too well.

BK Blue (paradoxically) How do you decide...

Which books to buy, and which to get from the library?

I mostly prefer to buy books, because if it's good, I have it on my shelf to reread later. I don't really like using the library, I have to confess.

Which book to buy next when you have an endless supply of to-read books?

Whatever genre I am in the mood for, really. Also the price plays a factor. If I can get more books off the bargain shelves, I am there. lol

Which genre to read next?

Well if it's horror or especially mystery it will easily catch my attention. If I am not in the mood for a certain genre, then I decide it by what kind of plot appeals to me. So basically I skim the summaries on the backs, or skim through the book to see what it's about and if I like the writing style.

If you are going to try a new author?

Sometimes it's as simple as seeing a book by a new author that sounds interesting, buying it and taking it home. Other times I research on Goodreads. I read the reviews, ask around, and decide if they sound like someone I'd be interested in reading.

Which new author to try?

Same as above. I am more likely to pick up a new author who writes single novels than someone who writes series. I can count the numbers of series I read or try to read on one hand. And I like to keep it that way, damn it. lol

Elvia (elvb) Which books to buy, and which to get from the library?
I haven't been to a book store and actually purchased anything for myself in a LONG time. I am thinking of joining one of those online book clubs. lol
Anyway, if I had the money, I would only purchase a book IF I knew I would really like it.

Which book to buy next when you have an endless supply of to-read books?
I would probably purchase a stand-alone I really wanted from my to-read list unless I had all the other books from the series already at home.

Which genre to read next?
I usually don't go by genre...just plots. If it sounds good I'm going to read it (or at least attempt to).

If you are going to try a new author?
I come here and you all tell me! lol

Which new author to try?
A lot of times if the new authors I'm looking into fit the same genre/plot lines as previous books I've read, I'll read those first.
