"I don't have any idea. I'm still wondering why those guys are still standing clear over there." Zander answered as he looked over at Ace and Kieera. It was probably because Kieera was doing something sneaky with her boyfriend. Well. They were probably a couple now. Thanks to everyone else. Not that it was a problem.
"I don't. I mean, I have no reason to… I am finally feeling happy about everything." She admitted. Kieera didn't want him to think she was suicidal. Because she wasn't. She felt her heart hammering in her chest. "So, what's up?" She asked. Changing the subject made her feel better.
Gewls glanced between the couple before turning to her boyfriend. "How do we get them together?" She asked, she didn't want them to be all separated. They were coming to party. Weren't they?

"Talking about you," Ace called back, just so he didn't have to totally kill the mood by telling them they were talking about self-harm and suicide. He looked over at Kieera before nodding towards Zan and Bex and walking around the pond towards them. He caught sight of Gewls and Jack then, waving them over with a grin. "You two looked like we just interrupted something."
Jack still couldn't stop smiling. He squeezed Gewls's hand. "That's because you did, asshole." He laughed lightly and Ace waved him off.
"Whatever, Augustus," he retorted.

Kieera arched her brow, following Ace. "Leave them alone Zander, you and Bex do things when there aren't people around." She pointed out. Her brother was a complete man whore and would always be. Okay, maybe that isn't the truth. He had changed since he started dating Bex.
Gewls took a deep breathe. "We aren't much for PDA Ace." She liked their private life. She almost wished they wouldn't have come for this. Even if it were to hang out with her friends.

Ace gave Gewls a wink as he wrapped his arm around Jack's shoulders, shaking the shorter boy lightly. "It doesn't need to be public for us to know what's going on," he said with a smile before shaking his head. "Not like I'm giving you crap. As long as your happy. And not pregnant."
Well, Ace had done it for Bex, apparently.
"Too soon," Bex said allowed with scrunched up nose, giving Ace a glare, who too simply shrugged. "Anyway, now that we're all finally here..." She trailed off, looking back at the doors of the school as if they would appear on cue like a movie. "Except for Link and Effie. Should we go get them?"
Jack shook his head while Ace shrugged once more. "They'll join us eventually if they want to," Jack reasoned.

Like she writes this part about her depression, and it's the greatest example of how I felt when I was depressed, and there are so many gems in it. Like this is one of my favorites:

Gewls looked at Ace, very offended. "It's none of your business. And yes, we are being safe." She turned bright red and only could imagine how Jack was feeling. Was he embarrassed by his best friends behavior? Suddenly the subject changed and it made her feel this pressure come up off of her shoulders. Link and Effie was their focus. Thank goodness.
Kieera chewed on her lip. "I think they will come. One of them or the other. Maybe both. We should just let go though… for now?" She offered. The few were here. They could swim and stuff.
Zander nodded in agreement with his sister. "Yeah. Let's just relax for now."

"Sounds perfect," Bex agreed with them with a smile, glad that Ace's comment had quickly been brushed under the rug when they changed the subject. She spun around to look back at the small body of water that wasn't big enough to be called a lake respectively. It still had a small, dark sandy shore, right until the water level plummeted into the earth. "How cold do you think the water is?" she asked to no one in particular as she walked over to the water's edge, too hesitant to dip her bare feet into it.
Ace sighed as he looked at the water with a frown. The day might have been absolutely gorgeous, but if the water was freezing, he wasn't really looking forward to having to jump in there.
Jack mimicked Ace's sigh as he said, "Only one way to find out." Before she could object or push him away, he scooped Gewls up in his arms and ran to the edge of the pond, tossing her easily into the deep part of the water just to be sure that she didn't end up hurting herself on the pond floor.

Gewls was so shocked, she really didn't gave time to gather her thoughts or even react until she was kicking herself to the top of the pond. She broke the surface with a gasp and gave Jack a glare. "You ass!" She swam to the side, not really thinking, she wanted to pull him in too but the moment she reached the side, she grabbed Ace and yanked him in. This was his fault. And Jack had his prosthetic. He wouldn't be a fan of her if she ruined his fake leg.
Kieera held her sides as she laughed. Her friends were dummies but she absolutely loved them. They all made her super happy.
Zander just so happened to be on the other side of her, and so he did what any brother would do and he gently-roughly- pushed her in.

Once Ace resurfaced, he immediately sent a small wave of water to Gewls in a decent-sized splash. "How come you get to call him an ass and then pull me in the water?" he asked with a laugh. The water wasn't nearly as bad as he feared; in fact, it was rather enjoyable. The perfect medium between cold enough to cool off and warm enough not to freeze your limbs off. He looked back over at Zander with a satisfied laugh once he pushed his sister in, flipping his hair out of his eyes while he waded near the surface.
"It's called cancer perks," Jack answered Ace with a laugh, his hands still in the pockets of his shorts as he stood on the water's edge. It was a big ordeal to take his prosthetic off, and he wasn't guaranteed the safety of not drowning in the pond like he was in a pool - or at least that's what his mentality was. So he opted to sit at the edge of the pond until he decided it was safe enough to join them, though he could still enjoy himself outside the water.
Bex laughed at the behavior of her friends, almost immediately realizing how everyone had changed since this morning. They all felt so somber and guilty for the past two months, that this laughter that bubbled up out of her throat almost felt alien. Even now, Bex still felt slightly guilty that Effie wasn't there, but at least she was home safe, hopefully enjoying the plushy comforts of her dorm room.
Before she too got pushed in, she took her cover-up off and took a running jump into the water.
Effie stood at the back doors of the school, nervously chewing off what was left of her nails that she hadn't already bit off while she watched everyone outside. Two seconds ago as she was pacing down the stairs with a bottle of tequila hidden under her baggy sweater, she felt invincible once again, but now she was faced with the task of going out to her friends and trying to enjoy herself, and she was on the brink of another anxiety attack as she watched them through the windows on the doors.

Gewls just rolled her eyes at the other boy. "Because had you not said anything, Jack wouldn't have felt the urge to have me be the water tester. So you too, are an ass." She glanced over at Jack with a sigh stuck in her throat. "You will be joining me, correct?" She asked, trying to come up with a logical reason she should pull him out of his comfort zone. But, she couldn't. She wouldn't force him into the water. "Jack," she started with a pout on her pink lips. That were a lot more swollen for making out of course. "The water seems way more cold than it needs to be." She wasn't much for seduction.
Zander clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth in debate, before he dove into the pond. The water wasn't too cold but it was too hot. Seemed rather perfect and it definitely matched the day and how it felt outside. "This is fun!" He shouted when he reached the surface. His lips pulled up into a lovely smile. He couldn't help how happy he felt. This was another freedoms because they were finally allowed to feel this way.
Kieera swam over to Ace, placing a hand on his chest. "Wanna play Marco Polo?" She asked him. She wasn't the most athletic of their group, but she was hella wicked when it came to water games. At least she liked to think so.

Jack snickered lightly at her plea, the way her lips turned down into an adorable pout. "I'll think about it," he answered honestly. He hated not being able to jump in the water as quickly and willingly as they had, but there wasn't really anything he could do about it. Cancer and all that jazz.
Ace grabbed Kieera's wrist, fitting her entire wrist within the grasp of his hand without putting any pressure down on her to hurt her. "How do you play?" he asked with a furrowed brow, and even Bex had to laugh.
"You don't know how to play Marco Polo?" she said shortly with another laugh as she pushed her wet hair out of her face. "I'm not even American and I know how to play that game."
Ace rolled his eyes but snickered. "No, the only ever pool games I played with my cousins were "how far can we throw the smallest kid" and up until puberty, I was the throwee." His family was certainly crazy, and the amount of cousins he had and the time he spent with them made up for the fact that he didn't have any siblings.
Effie, stop being such a bitch! Effie's subconscious yelled at her while she forced herself not to chew her nails down to the stub. They already looked disgusting; she didn't want to make them worse. They're your friends. You've got nothing to be afraid of. She'd done an awful lot of talking to herself ever since she got back.
With a quick exhale, she pushed the door open and started outside towards the pond.

Gewls almost turned her head at Ace's comment on being the throwee. That had seriously been her job not even five minutes ago. But she just turned back to Jack. "Want me to come out and sit with you then? I would like to work on the color of my skin. I want a more darker appearance. I'm just too white for my own good and it kinda sucks." She offered. It was no fun if her boyfriend wasn't going to be able to participate too. Correct? Or was she the only one that felt this way?
Kieera felt her breathe hitch in her throat when she felt his hand on her wrist. She wasn't afraid, just rather surprised at his fast reflexes. "Well, someone, for example, Bex, she keeps her eyes closed while everyone else gathers around. And she says 'Marco' and everyone replies with 'Polo' but they have to swim away before she catches them and whoever she captures first becomes Marco." She answered only after his comment and to her that was sad. She would have hated to be the first one in.

Jack just smiled at his girlfriend, reaching out to cup her wet face in his hand. "I just want you to enjoy yourself, babe," he said before he pulled away slowly and leaned back on his hands in the grass. "If you'd rather swim, then swim. But I've always got a spot right here for you if you'd rather join me."
Effie quickly appeared then, silently and quickly placing herself with her legs crossed beside Jack who jumped at the sight of her quick appearance. "Sorry, Gewls. I stole your spot," she said quickly, flashing a smile at the girl in the water, and Bex let out a light squeal.
"You made it!" Bex said to Effie once she heard her voice, turning to make sure her friend was there. Now she could stop feeling so guilty.
Effie sneered, pulling out the water bottle she'd had hidden under her sweater. "I assumed none of you had a stash, so I figured I was in charge of bringing the alcohol. And I don't like letting people down." She gave another smile, and Bex felt happy goosebumps rise on her skin at the sight of her best friend's signature smile. She hadn't seen it in so long; maybe Effie really was starting to come back.

"Effie!" Kieera pulled away from Ace to go to her. She had this huge smile on her face because she was so dang happy to see her she couldn't keep if off. She just wanted to jump for joy.
Gewls on the other hand, she was happy to see her. Effie was alive and she was here with some fun drink. Gewls got out of the water anyways. "Lucky for me there isn't two of you so I can sit by my boyfriend anyways." She replied, sitting on his other side. But she was so glad to actually see that Effie made it in a piece even if she did seem like she was a bitch.

Bex felt like she couldn't wipe the smile off her face. She was ecstatic that her friend was making so much progress; whatever happened while she was gone in her room or doing whatever, she was thankful she gave her the space. She looked over to before she swam over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist in a tight hug.

Zander shrugged. "We weren't too sure. But you are a keeper." He said seriously, wrapping Bex up with him when she swam over. He glanced at Kieera and then back up at Effie.
"The water is actually really nice." Kieera said as she stared at the bottle in her hands. She had sworn off drinking months before. After the last time didn't end so well. But she wanted to drink. And she had to look at Ace for this approval.

Effie still shook her head at Kieera, wrinkling her nose at the water. She could feel Bex's nervous eyes burning a hole into the back of her head. Her and Kieera knew the reason she wasn't swimming, and she didn't want to feel guilty about it. "My swimming ability significantly decreases when I'm drunk, and since I plan on getting drunk, I'll hang out with the cripple." She nudged Jack with her elbow as she light her cigarette, taking a long drag from it.
Jack rubbed the spot on his ribs where her bony elbow had hit him as he turned to her. "Do you know if Link is joining us?" he asked, and he noted the quick look of distaste that crossed her face.
"No clue," Effie answered shortly, crossing her arms over her chest as she flicked the end of her cigarette off.

Zander raised his eyebrow. "You don't think he would? Even with you here?" He asked curiously. He shoudknt have been bothering her much about it. Bex seemed to wear that expression on her face.

"Somebody should go get him," Bex said, completely oblivious to Effie's obvious distaste towards the subject of Link. She liked their group, and she hated one of them being missing when they were all together like this.
Ace couldn't help but snicker at the amount of the drink Kieera downed. Apparently she was set on getting wasted today.
Effie reached out and took the bottle back from Kieera, quickly taking a long drink before she sighed and said, "Fine. Kieera, would you like to join me in getting Lincoln?" She'd already started the drinking process earlier in her dorm before she joined them, so she was already feeling the effects of the liquid courage. Maybe now she'd have the courage to actually speak her mind to him instead of just walking away.
