Not to bring up an old thread, but I feel it's important for you to know that I, too, was confused reading this on paper. Thank you for helping me to feel reassured that it wasn't just me.

I just noticed this seeming error. It already said that Candlestick chose not to come along with them. Why is her name mentioned twice? (Twice, because after pg 277 it also says: “Did we see what?” called Candlestick.)

I wonder if anyone's mentioned it to Catherynne M. Valente.

Oh, and as per your first question, yes, the gender of Aroostook *does* change whimsically. Though it's mostly "she/her".
