Ricardo Signes (rjbs) | 5 comments The book "Plain Words," Kindle Edition, 21189746, appears to have 320 pages on the web, but the API does not report any page count. (This kind of problem seems pretty common.)

Empress (the_empress) Not sure I understand but if you are reporting a bug, librarians can't help you. You need to post here or contact support directly.

Elizabeth (Alaska) That edition does show 320 pages on the book record.

lethe | 16368 comments What do you mean by API in this context?

(BTW, Amazon says that it's 302 pages.)

Ricardo Signes (rjbs) | 5 comments I mean that if you use the Goodreads API to ask about the book, you get the XML:

<num_pages><![CDATA[]]></num_pages>

In other words, it doesn't tell you the number of pages otherwise shown on the web page.

I will report this to the URLs that Ellie suggested.

lethe | 16368 comments I have no idea what the GR API is. I think it is indeed a question for Support.

Ricardo Signes (rjbs) | 5 comments Thanks, I've written support (and made a local fix as well).

For anyone who was left wondering, the API ("application-program interface") is a way that external programs can ask GR for information about books in a way that computers can understand. I use this to power a program that sends me angry text messages when I'm not getting enough reading done in a week. When the API data is wrong, these external programs are crippled.
