The One And Only Ivan is an enlightening book, that is based on some real events.The author Applegate's writing really drew me in and made me feel as if I was living Ivan's story.The book shows the cruelty done to animals in circuses. This story talks about the terrible truth, that most animals die prematurely when in circus captivity.The story shows the fact that in most cases, a zoo is a much better place for animals than a circus. The topic of animal intelligence and animal cruelty are important. Applegate did a wonderful job of putting the reader in the mindset of a captive animal in this book.
