Brian Foster (bwfoster78) | 191 comments Hi,

I’m Brian, and I write epic fantasy.

Why, then, am I posting in a thread for readers and writers of Romance?

Well, see, my wife doesn’t care all that much for epic fantasy. She does, however, love Romance, especially Nora Roberts, and I really want her to like at least something that I wrote. And as someone who doesn’t read Romance, I could use your help.

I think my novella, Abuse of Power, is pretty decent – much better after a complete rewrite than the first two versions were anyway – but it’s hard for me to know for sure. I’d love to get some actual Romance readers to give me their opinion and make suggestions before I let my wife read it (and before I put it up on Amazon of course).

If the story pitched below sounds interesting to you and you’d be able to read it over the next week or so (about 22000 words + an optional 8000 word excerpt of the novel I’m about to release), shoot me a message with your email address. I can easily get you a Word file or pdf, but, if you really want it formatted for the Kindle, I can try to figure out that conversion (I’ve got to figure it out soon anyway :) ).

Thanks for reading this.

Auggie’s life is good. He travels the countryside tracking outlaws and generally avoiding any responsibility for running his father’s duchy, especially the part about providing an heir.

Alaina hates being a fugitive. She’s left all her friends and family behind and can’t trust anyone. Worse, she’s always looking over her shoulder expecting the next person to walk into an inn’s common room to be a catcher who will have her arrested.

After Alaina is imprisoned, Auggie rescues her, thinking her capture an act of vengeance against him. When he learns that she’s guilty, his duty is clear—have her executed.
