More about this on book review....
For now I'll be focusing on reading Of Mice and Men since I never read this one in high school. I know, shame on me. Ehehehehe... ^_^

Jzhun, Aaron and Ariel...hehehehe...^_^ very united guys."

LOL! Fine I'll change it later. I dont have access to Photobucket right now.

you said it not me ^_^
anyways whats wrong with geeky?
I have a shirt that says "Geek is the new Chic!" which is so true ;)"
Me and my friends got out own version of that.
"Geeks are the new Jocks!"
haha., :)

There. Much better than that avatar endorsing one of the deadly sins: Gluttony!! haha., kidding.,

Tinkers by Paul Harding won 2010 Pulitzer Fiction last Monday. In 2007, The Road was it. I generally think that Pulitzer winners are better than Booker's. Have you read 2009's Olive Kitteridge and 2008's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao? There are nice books too. Would you holler when you see Tinkers in the bookstore? Bili tayo!

________
I read Olive Kitteridge last January..its a fantastic book. I received it as a gift. At first I was hesitant to read it coz it does not capture my interest and at that time,I wish I received The Angels Game instead (Kitteridge is expensive). Now, I even bought Abide with Me at P20 in Booksale. Will look for Tinkers. : )

Thanks, Bluemoon. Probably thats because prior to going to the meet up I was at an event that caused me enough embarrassment. LOL!
The guys arent embarrassed, theyre just so into it. Taking the game seriously.

Thanks for the heads up, Kuya Doni. I read about this yesterday on The New York Times and it didn't occur to me to post the link here.
I think Pulitzer and Booker are of equal stature for me. As the Filipino experience goes, most of us seems to relate more to books that won the Pulitzer since we're already acquainted with the American way of life. The Booker tends more to focus on books highlighting the culture and its former colonies, i.e, India, Canada, and Australia. I just discovered what The Booker Prize was prior my registration here at Goodreads two years ago. I think I've come to know of The Booker since reading raving reviews of Life of Pi by Yann Martel (And he's got a new book due out soon titled Beatrice and Virgil: A Novel). Come to think of it I haven't read any pa-Booker winning novel since knowing of it. I really need to read one since I got some.
Rest assured Kuya Doni I'll notify you if I ever saw a copy of Tinkers.
My warm regards and happy reading... ^_^

I must agree with you Kuya Doni, i think Pulitzer winners (and even the finalists) are better than Booker's. Pulitzer winners (fiction) that I have are: The Shipping News, The Hours and The Color Purple.
I think Booker prize winners are nice din, i have a copy of Life of Pi, The Inheritance of Loss and The God of Small Things, i didn't like the latter that much though.

Thanks, Twistedmoe.
I have been collecting all of them (winners and finalists - Pulitzer and Booker. Just too many books to read so I just pick the one that I feel like reading. But yes, those that I've read, I still like Pulitzer winners.
One Booker winner that I really hate is John Banville's THE SEA. Don't buy or read that book! I normally see that on sale. The story is okay - a bit melodramatic just like other Booker winners - but I hate his writing style. I have not read his book but in THE SEA, it is like reading a calm sea - dreamy and boring. It can help cure insomnia if you have one though.

Thanks for the tip off, Kuya Doni. I almost bought the book once when I saw it on sale and I'm glad I didn't. As for me I research first what's the plotline of a novel that won the Booker Prize. If it caughts my fancy and intrigues me, then hands down I buy it.

Hey Bluemoon!!! I just saw this.! It's not fair. I didn't even know that Jam is taking a photo. hahahaha...

Yes, Anne. I agree. It is a short but an amazing novel fully packed with nice quotable quotes. Wonderful wonderful book!

I also bought my copy last week to check out this Filipino author. : )

The hype is that Syjuco is the first to win the Man Asian Award and being a Filipino at that who's not to be proud...
In time I'll choose this as a Moderator's Pick so we can all discuss what the book is about. To adjudge if it really deserves to win the said award.
That's all for now...
My warm regards and happy reading... ^_^

That's a nice book, happy reading!

Lolz! Emir...
Then what is that Source?

It's gonna get better, I promise you. Watch out for my fave characters on that book, Zoë Nightshade and Nico Di Angelo.

Boohoo.. No Originality!! Nico di Angelo is my favorite character!!
Just kidding man! :)

Try mind reading! haha
Sheez., I was just kidding! Why be so serious?! hahahaha
And its haven't not have'nt! sorry, I am having my OCD attacks today.., lol

I love Artemis, she's just so darn tiny an..."
Its sad even in the middle of the story. Bianca, the hot Bianca, died in a lame self-sacrificial manner!!

Now you're joke on me came true! You're the one to blame Bluemoon!!
To everyone who I robbed an experience because of Bluemoon's prophesied spoiler, you can kick my ass.

fun, just also finished the whole Percy Jackson and the Olympians set last month. i like villainous characters, so medyo type ko si Luke. at least may kaunting redeeming factor, parang si Raistlin Majere <3 haha. but then, i also like Nico di Angelo :D
haha, pwede ba dito currently REreading? kasi i'm trying to reread Dragons of Spring Dawning. hence the mention of my favorite character Raistlin.
night~! ^^

Okay lang ang rereading I do that lot sometimes when I'm feeling lousy and don't have any idea what book to read next...
As for me I know it's summer guys and Halloween is sooo farrrr awaaayyyy...
But that doesn't stopped me to read Night Shift... I want to be scared shit this month
And talk about The Road. Well the book is unsettling but it didn't scared me, it just made me into this brooding and pondering state to which I'm wallowing right now... A small book that made me think about of lot of ramifications when the time come where you and I will eat one another... Which will I start eating first your torso or your leg...? Hmmm...
And the stranger thing is after reading the book I think I gained my appetite. Well so much for reading a book with cannibals in it...

Dylan: Everybody seems to love Nico diAngelo more than Percy Jackson. I think that is because you can really see the tremendous growth in Nico's character.
For me, Luke is a pretty weak villain. I like villains that would make me want to punch them in their face if ever I will meet them. Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter is a good example of that, as well as Caine Soren from GONE and Sebastian Verlac from TMI series.
Anyways, I think magkakasundo kayo nung isang member dito. I think the name is Alex, he also likes to read dragon stuffs.

yeah, i saw the 'dragon stuffs' (as you put it XD) thread last night while moseying around. :D

How is it so far? I enjoyed it so much that I finished it in 2 days!

How is it so far? I enjoyed it so much that I finished it in 2 days!"
I find the first few chapters of the book boring... just the first few chapters

I agree with Aaron. I am not fond of YA but The Hunger Games really hooked me for 2 days and few days after that. After finishing that in 2 days, I rushed to the bookstore and bought Catching Fire sa sobrang excited ko and I did not care about shelling out another P700+. Ha ha ha. And you might see me in the queue once Mockingbird (not sure of the title) comes out.
Baka lang, your expectation has been raised by the positive feedbacks from us. Kaya akala mo, mindblowing agad. Medyo, babawan mo ang kaligayahan mo. YA nga eh.

Medyo is the operative word. Si Ace kasi serious reader yan. Pero sabi nya, Aaron: ikaw raw ang nagugustuhan nya ang mga reviews kaya raw siya maraming binabasang YA ngayon. If we are going to vote for the Most Influential Reviewer sa Filipino group, ikaw ang iboboto ko.
