I just started reading it and liking the author's humor so far. Makes me think of Pied Piper. :)"

Yeah, that's what made me buy them. A pied piper with a twist. I've got 3 of the Illmoor books. :D Bought them all in Booksale.

message 1602: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Book Elf - I have Book 1 of that. I will wait for your review. Those 3 books in that series flooded BS outlets late last year. There were HB and PB bindings and sometimes HB was sometimes even cheaper. I did not buy books 2 & 3 though. I thought I wanted to try book 1 first.

Good for you Tintin!

Yeah, I agree that making a review for this book is difficult. I can't wait to know what you'll think of the ending! Still, looking forward to your review. ^_^

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Hay, kailan kaya ako magkakaroon ng motivation to read Ilustrado? Tina, I have a feeling that your review is what I have been waiting for :)

Tintin (marimorimo) | 111 comments @jzhun: Ahaha sige naku na-intriga tuloy ako sa ending ng Ilustrado. Probably I'll be done with it by next next week :)

@K.D.: Ako rin nakumbinsi ko lang sarili ko na basahin ang Ilustrado pagkatapos magbasa ng maraming YA and genre novels. Para maiba naman XD

Ako din! I haven't read it and whenever I tried picking it up, I don't know parang ayoko muna. Saka, parang nasisikipan ako sa words, the page margins kasi. haha

omg, where did you see the book 3? i will buy it!!!!

message 1611: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Book Elf - Used to be at BS Greenhills. But I was there last week, did not see a single copy anymore. In case I see one again, I will let you know immediately.

Tintin and Krizia - Yes, parang gusto ko munang maging classic sya. Kasi ngayon marami pang "high" dyan.

Tintin (marimorimo) | 111 comments K.D.: I'm not sure about a lot of people being "high" about Ilustrado: A Novel. Both Amazon and Goodreads reviewers have a meta rating of it in the low threes. Now that I'm reading it, I think I can understand why it doesn't get rave reviews from the general (international) populace but still won the Man Asian prize. (I'll elaborate further pag natapos ko na siyang basahin).

(slightly off-topic) About classics, isn't it telling that Noli and El Fili are considered classics here yet are not widely known by the international audience?

message 1615: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Tintin: Noli and that book of Jose Garcia Villa have been released by Penguin as a move to make them classics worldwide. Maybe we should buy copies so Penguin would see that people are interested and liked them and then they will check other Filipino works?

Will: Fantastic trip! It is a nice book! No matter what people say. For me it is better than "The Alchemist." That being a non-fiction.

message 1618: by Tintin (new)

That spot is solely reserved for The Little Prince.

What I'm currently reading: A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly by Jennifer Donnelly and How Fiction Works by James Wood in addition to Ilustrado: A Novel

Chris (chr1s) | 22 comments Im currently reading Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None & i must say its dauntingly difficult book to read. According to the author himself, its his deepest ever written book so i was overly ambitious when i decided to read it. Its a hard book to decipher but once you do, it will hit you hard. I have even dreamt of it!

I am done with it! The end of Part 3 made me cry. It brought back painful memories. Hunger is now officially in my Top 5, and I'll read it again, maybe next year.

I just started The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald this afternoon, on the bus. And I lost my phone while reading, haha. It's a little ominous. Hmm.

WILL: I have been seeing Fforde's books even in NBS P99 hardbound tables. But I am not buying yet. Everytime I see them, I remember Aaron :). Siguro sa Pasko, maraming giveaways na ganyan. *hoping*

Haha, ominous meaning something that I will not enjoy (who enjoys losing a mobile phone?). Although I am not loving it, I am currently enjoying it.

message 1647: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Gatsby is one of the greatest American novels (modern fiction). I am glad you are enjoying it, Angus!

message 1648: by Veronica (new)

Veronica | 734 comments Thanks to Angus, I started reading War and Peace yesterday. It's also a chance to cross it off my bucket list. Despite my preconceived notions, I was pleasantly surprised to find I was enjoying the story a lot. Read from morning till late afternoon and the only reason I stopped is that my eyes were tired.

Took a leave from work yesterday and had the house all to myself. No phones ringing, no blaring radios or TV. Just me and a good book and two dogs sleeping at my feet. Perfect day. I wish I could do this more often. (:
