Currently reading ANGELFIRE by Moulton.... and at this point in the book, i really think I want to light it on fire...LOL I'm still a few chapters into it and I really hope it gets better otherwise, boo for me!
Still reading Chuck Palahniuk's Choke. I'm pushing myself to like this book since it's my first time to read Palahniuk's work. Whew, not good so far.

Oh dear, you picked the wrong introduction to Palahniuk! Even my desensitized friend who read it was put off by Chuck's shall we say, "unsavory" and "graphic" descriptions in the book.
Did 'Choke' offend your sensibilities?

Yes, everything is offending me. :( I didn't expect that this book will be like this since I am so excited to read a Palahniuk book. What a let down!
Mr. Palahniuk would be pleased to know that his writing still offends somebody. ^_^ Kidding. Trademark na kasi ni Palahniuk yung squicky (squeamish + icky). Some think that Palahniuk setting the shock factor high in his fiction is getting old. I have read 3 of his novels (Haunted, Choke, Diary). Diary was the last I read and is the "tamest" of the three. I found it a bit boring. :)) I would have love to read Fight Club a long time ago, but si Palahniuk na rin mismo nagsabi na the movie is better than the book, so hindi ko na babasahin. :) I think a reader has to be in a certain phase in his/her life to find Palahniuk's stories appealing, and not all people go through this phase. ;)
Palahniuk is clearly not for everyone. I guess he appeals to those with a penchant for the macabre and sordid and the blackest form of comedy ever to grace printed pages.
I've only read Lullaby and I was riveted by the first half of the book that I breezed through it in a matter of hours. However, the second half was a big letdown that I ended up not liking the novel as a whole. (His social commentary was brilliant though!)
After that, I've never had the compulsion to pick up another one of his books.
Tricia, acquainting yourself with a new author is always a gamble; at least consider yourself duly enlightened.

@Trigger: my friend told me too that Diary is boring! She tried picking it up couple of time but not successful. Heh. Really? Fight Club isn't that great? I really wanted to read it too!@Kathlene: Looks like I'm going to give up my Palahniuk challenge this year. It's not really for me.
Thanks guys!

try to read hunted by palahniuk, tignan ko lang kung ano magiging reaction mo hehehe!
I loved Fight Club. I am scheduled to read Choke next. I think Palahniuk is more of a man's author so I admire women who can stomach him.

Umaaray nga ako habang binabasa ko yun... kaya pala banned yung book na yun.
The graphic novels in this series are so difficult to find. I'm still missing Part Two but I guess I'll read how it all ends first.

Only loved one also, "By the River Piedra...". It was really really nice.
I have mix feeling with Coelho's books, The Alchemist was amazing, Veronika Decides to Die and Zahir was also my favorites, Brida, The Devil and Miss Prym and By The River Piedra was also good. I just don't like Witch of Portobello and Valkyries.
Still reading
. It's magnificent. Worth the time and energy. And puyat na rin.And oh, the movie adaptation of
is now showing in Metro Manila theaters. I've read the book and seen the movie, but I want to watch it again. I might likeit, the adaptation, this time.
I loved War and Peace! I loved each and every character in that Tolstoy's saga. It is just uncomparable. A feat that no writer has ever replicated. Long but meaty and he did not leave stones unturned. In my bookshelves, the one that almost comparable is Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago but still WP is THE one!

I'm reading 1. Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
2. I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (which I don't really like and I dunno, it's poorly written)
I don't like the book Tricia but the movie was good because of Alex Pettyfer ^^ and also they cut out the boring parts in the movie, and the special effects at the end is nicely done too

On my reading list...they are on my bookshelf, still in their plastic store covers...i have to cover them with my own plastic cover before I can begin reading..LOLBeastly

Jane Eyre
<--- I love the new editions of the classics with their flower cover themes! (they have romeo and juliet and others...)Nicholas Flamel: The Alchemist

They could count as real people, maybe even more human than most of us.

@Bookrazy-Koi yes I've seen that too, they also have pride and prejudice, Wuthering Heights and others
@Angus - War and Peace has been on my Mount TBR for some time now.Which translation are you reading? I might queue it after I'm done with
and
. Both great reads, by the way.The latter book has a terrible title, I know, but "Filth" actually stands for "Failed in London, Try Hong Kong." I keep having to explain because the title embarrasses me... Hahaha.

. So far so good :) Pero ang hirap gawan ng review nito... XDWow, andaming recs ng War and Peace! Fave book din yan ng isa sa mga writers na gusto ko (I forget who) kaya naiintriga din ako. Mabasa nga one of these days. Preferably kapag may ebook reader na ako para di kailangan magbitbit ng sobrang kapal na libro!

I'm reading the Pevear-Volokhonsky translation. It's supposed to be the best translation. Daw, hehe. Yung iba raw kasi chinochop-chop yung original.
And oh, John Banville is a very skilled writer. Ang sarap i read aloud ng prose niya. I'm referring to The Sea

yup, particularly in those sequences where Gantz transports people. They just released a live action movie (with Death Note's Kenichi "L" Matsuyama playing Kato) although we can't expect it to be as brutally good as the manga
