Just finished "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" the other day, and now I'm on "Girl who Played with Fire", both by Stieg Larsson.

Pero kasi, si Murakami acquired taste yan eh, parang Unagi or Wasabi or even beer, sumasarap habang tumatagal
Ranee wrote: "Pero kasi, si Murakami acquired taste yan eh, parang Unagi or Wasabi or even beer, sumasarap habang tumatagal"Panalo sa analogy ah. I guess you're referring to Asahi Super Dry sa beer? hehe
that's japanese for eel. didn't enjoy beer either but wasabi is really something... particularly with fish :-)
I have never tried Asahi Super Dry, now I am getting curious. heheJoyzi, sarap kaya ng eel, pwede din ang uni (sea urchin) yumyum! (nagutom tuloy ako, nagcrave ako bigla ng japanese food)
Unagi is yummy..so is jellyfish... i haven't tried sea urchin tho'...some say that it's yummy..but then again a lot of people say caviar is yummy but i don't care much for it..yech.. i can't even stomach too much oysters...malansa
that's the point! They are an acquired taste. That is exactly what Murakami's style is. You have to immerse yourself, accepting his world then digest it after. Just imagine you are Alice and you enter Wonderland. And Wonderland is not something to be scared of or is yucky. She even had one great deal of an adventure.Aargh Aaron, book pushing is such a hard thing to do.
Koi:I haven't tried caviar, not that rich to afford one, hehe.

@Joyzi: Talaga?
I find it interesting that most of things Japanese are generally this way (acquired tastes) but when you do like it you'll like it above anything else. I for one think Japanese Rock is the best there is but you can imagine how a lot of people would disagree :-)

To me, being introduced to Japanese culture at a young age through anime (Sailormoon!!!) has definitely helped in having a great appreciation for anything and everything Japanese. To others who are not as familiar, their stories and story-telling methods seem to operate on a different wavelength. Sometimes I still feel that way. XD
Yeah I love anime, jdrama, manga, jpop and heck I also been into cosplaying but still Murakami doesn't hook me idk why.

None of that vulgar, in your face American storytelling.
@Rcg77: Yes!!! It stimulates the mind, doesn't it? Very refreshing imo.@Krizia Anna: OMG! I'm reading that series, too. I like the twist sa fairy tale characters. Kaso ang mahal ng volumes niyan, kaya yung 1st lang nabili ko. The rest... si Captain Jack Sparrow ang hinire ko para makuha ko hehehe. :P~

Miyazaki? As in Hayao Miyazaki? I love his works and the music of Joe Hisaishi! He is one of the reason why I would want to go to Japan, I have to see and visit the Ghibli museum

Reading Looking for Alaska in preparation to reading Paper Towns.Alaska Young mystifies me and frankly no girl, even a literary one at that, had that effect on me for quite a while.
Will go search for her, then...
Reading Emily the Strange: The Lost Days by Rob Reger. I didn't know that this has a novel. I only read the graphic novels. It's funny and nice.
