message 1032: by Tintin (last edited Nov 24, 2010 02:37AM) (new)

Tintin (marimorimo) | 111 comments Currently reading Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly , Life of Pi by Yann Martel , Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1) by Kristin Cashore , and soon to finish The Book Thief by Markus Zusak .

I tend to read a few chapters of 2 different books everyday, and I only read Graceling during the weekends. All of my current reads are surprisingly GOOD, with Graceling probably relatively the weakest. I just started Life of Pi today even though it's been in my TBR pile for months and I didn't expect to like it much, but 90 pages in and I'm enjoying it a LOT ^_^

Ey tintin, so far, how do you find Life of Pi? someone gave it to me, and i want to know if I should move it up in my TBR list.

I like it a lot so far, but it may not be to everyone's taste. It's about an Indian boy with multiple faiths (Hindu, Christian, and Muslim but predominantly from a Hindu perspective as he was born in India). It's a very thoughtful book, and not one I can neatly peg down to a specific genre (literary maybe?). I think it takes an open mind to fully appreciate it, as we know a lot of people are very sensitive about their faith and beliefs. I have yet to find something I hate about the story, but then I'm only a quarter into it so I can't make a complete judgement yet :)

Ranee | 1902 comments thanks Tintin! your comment is well appreciated! insightful too. Will try to read it on Christmas break.

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Really Lyle? You read Jodi Piccoult?

message 1045: by Joyzi (new)

Joyzi (joit) | 1768 comments Bakit K.D, is there something shocking about Lyle reading Picoult books?

message 1046: by Lyle Kimo (new)

Lyle Kimo Valdez (eskablong) | 131 comments My first Picoult book. :D A friend recommended this when she saw that I have read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

message 1047: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Exactly. Joyzi: it will be his first. If you check his read books, they are mostly "young man's books": fantasy, sci-fi, etc. So, I was surprised to see him adding Jodi Piccoult.

It's like you if you pick say a classic foreign book like Elias Canetti's Auto-da-Fe. Magre-react ako bigla ha ha.

message 1048: by Joyzi (new)

Joyzi (joit) | 1768 comments grabe naman nakakagulat talaga pagnagbasa ko ng classics lol parang magugunaw ang mundo ganun?

Lyle try to read My Sister's Keeper and Nineteen Minutes, maganda mga books ni Picoult parang mix ng drama, ethics and legalities, very informative din dami ka matutunan.

message 1049: by K.D. (new)

Next year ko na babasahin. I tried My Sister's Keeper before. Na-dramahan ako. Umpisa pa lang batang babae denemanda ang mga magulang nya. Huh? Okay. Fine. *closed the book* Kinabukasan *handed out the book back to the officemate* Nagustuhan mo? "Oh hum..."

message 1050: by Joyzi (new)
