message 4964: by Paul (new)

Paul (pelpolintan) Susan,

Overall, I like 1984. I like the story because it kept me engaged enough. However, the book also talks about some sociological and philosophical issues not only because they coincide with the story, they also give us an insight of Orwell's perspective. Happy reading.

message 4981: by Dennis (last edited Jul 27, 2014 04:49PM) (new)

Dennis John | 4 comments I'm currently marathoning The Maze Runner and it's prequel. I'm now on the second one The Scorch Trials. The first book was heart pounding and it really rocked my world. I would not find myself living in this type of DYSTOPIA.

It's really a page turner but i think I did not find any growth on Thomas's character. Hoping to see it in the third book The Death Cure. I started reading it 'coz it's movie version is showing on september. Besides it's very rare nowadays to find a HERO(male protagonist) in DYSTOPIAN novels. Most DYSTOPIAN novels that we have right now are stories about HEROINES(female protagonists) that became so dominion and powerful along the story.

AFTER I'M DONE READING THE MAZE RUNNER, I'LL READ The Eye of Minds. ANOTHER JAMES DASHNER NOVEL.

message 4982: by Paolo (new)

Paolo Right now six chapters into The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.

Murakami's style of storytelling unfolds at such a pace and with a certain beat/rhythm that reading it feels so serene and relaxing. Excellent for a cool, quiet morning or a rainy day. And he has this way of making the most mundane situations more interesting and relateable than they usually are.

So I'm enjoying this so far.

======

Before this, I finished re-reading The Giver last week.

======

And for August, I'll be reading Fear of Flying (for this group's discussions) and The Name of the Wind for another group's August discussions :)

Rakkel (themagiczebra) | 2 comments I've just started the second book in the "Gentleman Bastard" series entitled "Red Seas Under Red Skies" and already loving every page. Lynch really is such an amazing writer. I highly recommend the first book, "The Lies of Locke Lamora." It can be a bit difficult to find, though, but I suggest for those interested to try Fully Booked for a copy. (I desperately want more people to read this so I can have someone to fangirl with, haha!)

Have fun reading and do let us know what you think of Book 2. Cheers!
