Lynai | 1188 comments Thanks Ranee and Jzhun. I'm already feeling SO left out that's why I'm forcing myself to read again. Plus, parang nabobobo na ako (feeling ko lang haha!) I just hope I could finish what I started. :))

Oh. Pahabol. I'm so happy to read that Hunger Games is out in paperback. Will visit National Bookstore soonest! Sana meron dito sa NBS Iloilo. :)

Lynai | 1188 comments If I'm not mistaken, I just read it here in some of the posts. Or maybe I did not read right?

message 458: by Ariel (new)

Ariel Acupan | 390 comments I really am waitin for the paperback for so long and I know if I could remember it right . . . someone told me that Suzanne Collins refuses to release a paperback edition of it. But I'm really hopin that you're right. HB is so pricey for me.

Aaron Vincent (aaronvincent) | 2053 comments Ariel: Just for this one, bend your PB prerogative. I swear, you're missing half of your YA Reads life.

Really, Ariel. I don't if she really said that or her publisher just want it at that so that they can rake all the money? In the publishing industry that's bad business. As a publisher and/or a author you want everybody to read you work, of course... I just can't fathom what are they trying to play here... :D

@Jzhun: I agree, not good at business at all. They should think of ways to cater all types of customers. What I feel about this is that, they are ridin w/ the bandwagon. Buyers are ok w/ buying the HB because they have no choice, that is plain opportunism.

I agree. I still cannot understand why do you have to buy SB if you already have HB. But that is me. So,...

I am currently reading Junky by William Burroughs. The is the definitive novel (semi-biographical at that) on heroin addiction. So far so good.

Welcome back, Lynai!

Naku matagal na kong naghahanap ng William Burroughs peroi mukha pa rin mahal ang libro niya...
Whenever I'm in a bookstore, I'm always salivating when I see his Naked Lunch: The Restored Text...

Is he somehow realted to Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan....?

Ahehehe.... :D

William Lee Burroughs is one of the beatnik writers. He was a Harvard graduate but he became addicted to heroin (Junky is semi-autobiographical). I have Naked Lunch and I think I will read it later this month or next. I can lend it to you after. I bought that copy the last time I was in the US.

Nice to know that you find the book okay.

I am currently reading Brendan Behan's Borstal Boy another book about angst-filled adolescent.

I liked that book! I think it is better than her Five People. But still I will always remember Albom with his Tuesdays. I was looking forward to read another book of him but what came out recently seemed not to be as great as those. Maybe next time.

I expect too much on his book "Tuesdays With Morrie" but it ended to be disappointing.

message 474: by Ace (new)

Ace (lj560) | 1169 comments I'm currently reading "The Ask and The Answer" by Patrick Ness, which is the Book 2 of Chaos Walking. For me, this is better than "The Knife of Never Letting Go", which is also one of my favorite books. Thanks Aaron for recommending these books ;)

Eh sabi nga to each his own naman yan di ba?! Ako, I liked Tuesdays and The Five People. I bought the 3rd book, For One More Day, yun ang di ko type mashado. Theres a new book from Albom, right? Since disappointed ako sa For One More Day, hindi ako enticed to buy nung most recent book.

I think the 4th book is non-fiction and kind inspirational work. So, I have not bought it also.

@Ace: sabi ko na nga ba, di ka pa bagay magbasa ng Pride and Prejudice. Stay ka muna na nga sa genre mo.

message 479: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments I love Tuesdays and Five People!

Yet I haven't got to read For One More Day...

Luckily I have a hardcover of Morrie in his Own Words para siyang The Last Lecture, kaso ewan ko lang if it comes close to that sine I haven't read The Last Lecture, I only saw the man who wrote it give a speech of that sort in an episode of Oprah...

Sana nga maganda yung For One More Day, since naging smash hit ang movie-made-for-televison feature niyan produced by Oprah...

I'm finished with Gone, just refer to my review how felt with that one...

I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince since I'm wayyyy tooo late reading this one...
This is in time for the movie release of HP7 in November...

Let it pass. For me, it is also important that I take some time off from reading. Minsan, the characters get mixed up when I read one fiction after the other. When I try to recall a story, halo-halo na. Like yong Murakami cats. Di ko na alam kung yon yong cat doon sa Wind Up Bird Chronicle o Kafka on the Shore. Ha ha ha. Or yong names ng characters... Aaron used to correct me (if it is Karniss or Katniss ha ha ha)

message 487: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Finally done with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and For One More Day.

I'm currently reading Ilustrado: A Novel by Miguel Syjuco for the group's book discussion this month.

Man, the shift from YA Lit to pure literary fiction is drastic, but I'm getting the hang on Syjuco's style.

Joselito Honestly and Brilliantly (joselitohonestlyandbrilliantly) I'm done also with HARRY POPPER, Petr Gintz's childhood friend. They both died in Nazi concentration camps.

Mina Esguerra (minavesguerra) | 36 comments Now reading Wicked. Having trouble adjusting to the style, but maybe because I just finished something that wasn't fantasy?

Hope I like it, kasi I already have Son of a Witch waiting to be read.

message 490: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I read Wicked a couple of years ago. It's just ok but it did not motivate me to read Son of a Witch. It is still there in my tbr pile.

message 491: by Ariel (new)

Ariel Acupan | 390 comments I've read Son of A Witch before, I didn't even know that it was a sequel to wicked when i bought it. Dumbass me(Hehehehe). It was very different from the style that I used to read but I was able to finish it. I found out after that there's a play adaptation of that (I mean wicked) and it got good reviews. I've been planning to read it for the longest time but could not get around to it.

Loved it, Ranee. Strange, because I don't usually react this way to this kind of book, and I don't even like the other books in the series that much. Dragon Tattoo lang talaga ang fave ko.
