Hm... I would actually expect a shifter-animal-like kingdom to consider it more of a scandal. Humans are very desensitized to the promiscuity of those around them. Affairs and divorces are common. But there are some species of animal that mate for life. Plus, animals stake claims on their mates. I suppose I'm assuming that the bond between the king and queen would be an emotional one though, and that wouldn't necessarily be the case. Though I'm not very informed, the only animal that I can think of in any case that has a female placed in a "ruling" position is a hyena or bouda.
Well I happen to be a naturalist, in my real life, and there are many different kinds of relationship in nature. The majority being non-monogamous. There are a handful of species that 'Mate for life' but even that is a loose interpretation. Many birds do this but if you take a closer look when one mate dies, they quickly gain another. There is a bald eagle nesting pair near my park. The Female has survived five males in the last 10 years, just this January her long time mate died and ONE WEEK later she had another. O.x
Also many species have female dominated societies if you look from the macro (elephants) to the micro (beehive colonies also many insects) they all place a different take or view on the male/female dynamic.
Most species including reptillian and most big cats have relationships that border on the indifferent. Most large predators must stay apart to survive, decrease stress on the food base. Lions are the exception because they have such ample food sources they can't afford not to work together.
That's really interesting! (Now I'm excited! And more educated than I was two minutes ago!) That makes sense too. Man, those female bald eagles though... >.>Ah! I can't believe I forgot bees! That's a pretty prime example, too.
Though I suppose morality isn't really a factor for animals. Do you think shifters would consider 'right and wrong' in a human context less? (Sorry, now I'm kind of invested in this conversation.)
I feel like it would be less of an issue. If you spend time in the animals, walking in there feet, then you might see things differently. Of course that would be based upon which animals you spent time as. If it was a pack animal like wolves then you would place importance on relationships, if it was big cats, excluding lions, or reptiles then you probably could care less, even be weary, (everything in the herpetology world eats each other). Birds you might find mate connections important, even foxes are usually loyal to a mate.
I think only swans and a few other bird species will die soon after their mate. That is why humans see swans as a romantic bird even though they are evil as fuck most of the time.
Oh my gosh this is so interesting. >.< I'm learning. This makes me so happy, I don't think you understand.I've heard that about swans actually.
Geese are evil too. At least, the ones in Texas are.
Lol yea. The fidelity to a mate is common in birds mostly because of the time and energy it takes to build a nest, lay eggs, incubate, and raise successful young. All of which is much easier to do with help. In Herpetology (reptiles and amphibians) compensate for this by laying anywhere from a dozen to 100 eggs depending on the species. They go for survival rates based on numbers not nurturing young. Which is why most Herps lay eggs somewhere and abandon them to fate, job done.
The american alligator is one of the few reptiles that actively protects the nest and the babies for the first 6 or so months of their lives.
This is what happens when you grow up watching too many nature documentaries (not this swamp people bs), go to college to study ecology and end up working in a park. I have too much stuffed up there and I think this is just me avoiding writing my characters history. O.x ... dangit
XD I'm totally avoiding finishing Phi, my charrie. It's so much writing... *Whines* Plus I have homework, dammit. I'm procrastinating so hard.
I gave her three favorite animals to shift, one being very motherly but more single mother type (the FL panther). I also made her have a favorite hawk form so she could also be mate loyal to a point but that will only matter if she has a husband. Last I made her a snake, and a dangerous one, from there she would draw the recluse personality, snakes don't want to be seen or noticed, and are very secretive.
Also both the hawk and cat will raise young and prepare them for the world, that is what she will draw on as a mother I think, protecting them and teaching them less hugs and kisses more this world is dangerous here is how you live in it.
Yea, that is a good summary, I am hoping there will be enough faults in the paranoia/reclusive behavior. I could not write a self absorbed person if it killed me. It will be a challenge to write just because I made her blind. O.x what the hell was I thinking ...
Cersiei is actually a well written character, aside from the self absorption, I love her constant battle between her desire to be her father, and her inability to do just that because she was always just the girl. Classic gilded cage meets daddy issues.I love imagining if her father had accepted that she was the perfect heir early on. She would be pretty awesome, but also would not create as much conflict as the creepy mother of her brothers children character she is in the books.

Henry wrote: "So in the enchance... So ignoring the fact that someone who can run at the speed of light can run around the earth 7 times per second and that they would either have to be mass less or infinite mas..."is there a question in there? Cause I feel like there was, but i missed it and just misread it as an odd sort of statement/fact.
There are limits to the abilities. Like Mentals get headaches. Supers have to eat like crazy. Trying to run around the world that fast? The character would probably end up burning all their energy and dying. At least that's what i assume. As the abilities aren't meant to be 'unstoppable'
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/En...The description comes from that site. So since the powers are based upon the world of comic books and fiction.
Probably more heavily reliant upon the fiction side of things than the actual science. I would assume that like the world of comic books all powers have their limitations. Like with Flash. Or even Briana/Breeze from the Gone series.
I mean you could talk to the mods about it. but my assumption is that the weaknesses listed and the negative effects are there to limit the power and that the power is like all superpowers. Purely fictional.
Ok, I'm gonna jump in with a few comments because now I feel like I need to prove like there aren't holes everywhere in the plot....Ok, number one, why the enhanced aren't the most powerful.
A) The world is basically dead and drained of most of it's resources, the food they need in abundance isn't so widely available, so they can't use their powers too much or too frequently.
B) Think a little bit about what the other powers can do. Between the entire healer kingdom, they are immune to every sickness and mental disease, and can recover from almost any wound. They have longer lifespan and, as a whole, tend to look younger than they are. (That's just one example, but you get the point.)
C) Science VS. Fantasy.
While the plot was designed with a bit of science in it (earthquakes, etc, dystopian society, plagues, which can all fall under the category of sci-fi [even developing powers can fall under that category]) once you get into the abilities, or superpowers, it becomes a lot more fantasy and far-fetched scientific concepts than anything else. All in all, it was just an idea for a storyline, not meant to be scientifically discussed, right?
D) Resistance
While not all of this is realistic, it makes sense for their powers. It wouldn't make sense for someone who was a fire elemental to be getting burnt all the time, right? A water elemental would be resistant to water pressure, an enhanced with super speed would likely be friction resistant.
So, yeah. That was my logic. As always, however, we look to improve, so if you have a suggestion to change things, let me know.

I am just overly worried about writing something that affects other characters I guess.
