Claire roled her eyes, "Fine. Whatever. Let's go." She and Jackson led the way to class. Jack trailed along sticking with Nikki. Jackson sneered, "What do you think you're doing trying to hang with us? At least three feet away, loser." Jack sighed and asked, "Why? I'm walking with my friend." Jackson turned and pushed Jack back a smidge, "Look. She's with us now. College stats in the city aren't like the one room school house you're from so get lost. You aren't wanted here."
Claire sneered, "Listen to him. Look at him. He doesn't belong here and if you join him you'll lose the most fun you'll have over the next four years. Ditch him. He was high school. Welcome to college."
Jack muttered to Nikki, "It's fine. I'll meet you later..."
Jack muttered to Nikki, "It's fine. I'll meet you later..."
Jack walked off, head bowed as he went to history.
Jackson scoffed, "Why do you bother with him? He's such a loser. You're hot and cool. Why waste your time around and sop like that? Seriously, the guy is wearing PLAID. If that's not nerd I don't know what is."

"It's JackSON," he snapped.
Claire rolled her eyes, "It isn't about nice in the real world. It's about looks, talent and fitting in. He doesn't check any of those boxes, hon."

Jack noticed and it stung a little but he understood. He took notes alone.
Some of the kids around him sneered about how he hadn't gotten invited to last night's party. He quipped, "I was invited, I just didn't want to torture myself being around idiots."
The sneered, "Big words for stupid farm boy."
The sneered, "Big words for stupid farm boy."
Claire slept through the class and Jackson close behind.
Jack was the first one out and JAckson shook Claire awake when class finished.
Jack went to the library to study. Alone.
Jackson asked Nikki, "What class do you have next?"
Jackson asked Nikki, "What class do you have next?"
Claire smirked, "You have it with Raven and Jack. HAve fun."
Jack had an hour before his next class and was trying to do the reading for history that was just assigned. It was difficult when kids kept closing his book or pushy him around like they were back in third grade. It was all below his notice really except how every word said to him was a mockery of how he spoke. He had never noticed his thick country accent until coming here.

Jack kept trying to study and eventually snapped, "Cut if out!" Everyone laughed and 20 people mimicked cruelly, "Cut it ooooout! Cut i oooout!" He clenched his fists, grabbed his stuff and stormed out, stung.
He shrugged her off, "Nothing. Nothing, important." He shoved his stuff in his locker, dragging out his things for art.
For some reason he snapped right then, turning on her, "No! I'm not gonna say it. Don't you have your new friends who simply can't get enough of your pretty face?" He paused realizing what he'd said and muttered, "Sorry. I didn't mean it. Really..."
He ditched his stuff and chased after her. He couldn't afford to lose her. Even if he already. "Nikki! Nikki, Please!"
He knelt beside her and said, "I didn't mean it. I reallt didn't. Just...just rough day...
"Look, people here...they are aren'f my best friends exactly...and then you...you're slipping away...I mean I get finding new friends. Just. A long day..."
He hugged back and said nothing. Just held onto her, hoping she didn't ditch him. He was glad she had new friends, but he didn't. He would be alone if she left him. She was now his only friend.
He let go and smiled a little, "Ya, what was I thinking."
He stood as well and checked his watch, "I've got art, so, see you later? Maybe lunch?"
He held ontobhis bag with his things. He didn't want to talk because he was suposed to be the tough strong one. He was supposed to comfort her. Now, she didn't even realize she was leaving him. They lived in the same house. What if that became the only reason they were friends? He slipped into a seat in the back corner of the room and kept his head down.
Jackson and Raven joined her.
Jack let her talk. He pulled out a prehistoric iPod and listened to some Brad Paisley. Another country artist.
