Nila It happens to me on a ridiculous scale (I actually have a 25 page word document!) and I too would like some advice.

vetathebooksurfer | 13 comments i hold myself from adding more book to my tbr XD currently it's like 15 books and half of it is not out yet, so i'm not drowing in book-sea

Enrico Efendi (enricoefendi) | 36 comments In my opinion, I prefer read your personal TBR books because the book that this book club readalong (currently Amy & Roger's Epic Detour) might not be worth to you. You don't know how to story goes, how good the story is. I don't buy books that I don't deserve to have. Buy the books you want. But, if you desperately want to join this month's readalong, it's your choice. :)

Lilian (random_girl_here) Borrow the book from the library and then you can decide if you would like to purchase it for your own personal collection.

Ana (404-equivalent) | 57 comments I don't have a huge TBR in physical books that I bought, but I do add books that seem interesting to me to my TBR on Goodreads and there are a lot of books. I don't really care too much about that honestly, I will pick up what I like to read next when I feel like it. I just like to have a list of books that I can look on to when I have no clue what to read next.
Regarding your issue: I usually just finish the book I'm currently reading and then start readalong read. I do like to participate in readalongs, even if it's not a book I would like to read the most, because I really enjoy reading other people's responses. Well, sometimes I read multiple books at the same time, but don't like that so much.
If you have giant list of to-read books and it bothers you, what about just deleting it? It would take the pressure off your chest I imagine. Or maybe select 10 books from it and delete the others, or if that's too bold, maybe make short-term tbr. Take 10 books and after you finished them take another 10, and ignore all the others. Maybe that would work?

Stephen Alff (AlffBooks) (alffbooks) | 440 comments my goodreads TBR(right now): 2845 books at the moment!
solution: read more often and more quickly?

message 8: by Wil (new)

Wil | 56 comments This has been how I found and amassed my huge Young adult genre book collection when I first found booktube with Katytastic and Polandbannanas books, I slightly regret buying all those, now that I have found my amazing clique of friends who read scifi and fantasy novels!!! :) still adding tons to my TBR though. I usually will buy them first in the used format or try a few chapters while sitting in my local library :)

Ana (404-equivalent) | 57 comments ^I know that. Similar situation here, only I didn't buy a lot of books. I just discovered tons of books with booktube. I don't live in an English-speaking country, so my library doesn't stack a lot of English books, so I had nowhere to find them, since I wasn't on GR at that time and didn't follow any book blogs (didn't even know that was a thing).

Whoa, I thought I had a lot of books on TBR with my 554 books. :D Your solution would do me well. :)

Kas (kasm) | 6 comments I'm guilty of grabbing Amazon books while they're free. I currently have over 400 unread books on my Kindle...

I try to read only books I have for readathons but I add to it so quickly it's pointless to try to zero it out.

Ana (404-equivalent) | 57 comments Where do you find out if the book is available for free? Is there a section in the shop, or how do you find out? I wouldn't mind some free books. :D

message 12: by Kas (new)

Kas (kasm) | 6 comments I use hundredzeros.com and ohfb.com

You can sign up for Book Bub emails and a few a day are free.

Usually indie authors and you risk reading crap or horrible edits...but I've found a few favorites.

M Beal My TBR is a nightmare. I keep discovering new books that are coming out and rediscovering old one I want to read again. I think I am sitting at 600+. I have officially put myself on a book buying ban until December.

message 14: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (natalken) | 6 comments I don't get why do people get so obsessed with their TBRs... I treat it only as a "place" where I stack books that I've read or heard about and don't want to forget about them in case I'll want to read them someday. But I always read what I currently want to read, not what's on the list and I don't care if my TBR consists of 10 or 1000 books. I know that I'll read them eventually, I just don't put too much pressure on myself.

Audiobooks are also a good solution(you can listen to them at double speed to get through them quickly! xD Yes I have done that before, and, will do so again!)
I add loads of books because everything just sounds so interesting! ^^

Stephen Alff (AlffBooks) (alffbooks) | 440 comments In the apartment I was in last year(moved out since) I had over 200 unread books and that's only the ones I had with me, most of my books are at my parents' house... I may have a book buying problem on top of just creating super long online TBR lists! xD
