Just got this from the library, even though I'm buried in reading "It" by Stephen King. Guess I'd better get cracking on our club books!
Okay! Just started this! Maybe I'll even finish before March!
Page 237; had some time to read tonight and am blowing through this! I have a few minor quibbles with the writing style but I'm totally drawn into the mystery.
Okay I finished it. Clearly it was a quick engaging enough read. Overall it drew me in enough to the whodunnit mystery to keep me reading. I did see most of the twists and turns coming, and I didn't particularly like any of the characters. I think the wrap-up is a bit contrived too. So, overall fun junk food for a free evening. Let's see what others think!
It was an interesting plot and that twist in the end is just tooooo unbelievable. I did give it a 4, however. Not a 5 because I too had a problem with the characters - didn't like them much. I found the protag to be too much of a people pleaser. Her character didn't really develop much - she didn't 'grow' as the pages turned, but seemed to stay as naive as she was on the first page.
Yes, Mia, I too think the wrap-up was too contrived. I was ready to buy into the husband having another family, which he did. But I was kinda glad to find he wasn't the who in whodunnit.
I found that thing about Lisa having had that fling in the bathroom with a guy kinda' silly - I think every second person you meet has had some kinda 'fling' in the course of their marriage.
I read this by way of an audio; the narrator was English, of course, and had that kinda accent that made all the oooo's have an uhhh sound ... like buk, instead of book ... pumped came out as poomped. At first it annoyed me, but it grew on me and I found myself talking like that - ha ha!
Mia ... did you like SK's IT much? That's one of the few books of his that I don't like. Didn't like the movie either.

Uh oh, I promised to comment and then got swamped. I didn't find the protagonist (or anyone) to be particularly likable either. And the protagonist's husband's undying love for her seemed a little too neat and clean. As for It, I did enjoy it, but didn't LOVE it. Never saw the movie. I was intrigued by the slow reveal of the mystery of the town and what "It" was, but was a little disappointed by the ending [SPOILER ALERT]: It's a space spider? What? :-)
Well, I'm the kind of reader that can hate something one day then go back to it a few years later and just love it. But IT never did grab me.Tommyknockers - a book that came out around the same time ... well, I bought it at the same time as IT ... that was a really good book. And it's a good movie too.
I just went on a Stephen King kick recently - read a bit when I was younger, but then dropped off. So, I have The Tommyknockers downloaded onto my Kindle (recommended by my friend Jennifer who I think is a lurker on Book Bodega) and will read that next!
