One of my favorites. But I'm also overloaded with stuff I want to get to soon.
Still, I love this.

Have people already started? first thoughts? without giving too much away of course.

Unfortunately this book isn't available to buy in electronic version. :-(I had to pick up a paper copy last year when I read it to my children. I normally read everything in ebook and audiobook formats.

Is there anyone reading along? Any thoughts so far? Or am I supposed to wait 'till after the end date? :P I nearly can't keep all this praise to myself!

I completely agree with you regarding the depiction of Scout and Jem, and really the whole community. I love how vividly it's all shown through Scout's point of view.
Dang I really want to re-read this book. I maybe will try to squeeze it in.

On a different note, I'm not going to join the Christine read as I've got an agreement with my girlfriend I wouldn't buy any more books 'till I've read the ones I own, and I don't own Christine yet. I'll be reading some books you've already read in the group reads.
I'm not finished with Mockingbird yet. Still loving every single line. This is going to be one of my all time favorites. I've never read a book that is so hard to put down.
The timing for this read is interesting. Harper Lee was featured in the film Capote, which was the movie Philip Seymour Hoffman won his Best Actor Oscar for.

How weird! Found mine though - it was staring me right in the face. Realised first time I checked I was looking for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Wrong bird titled book!
Mockingbird is so good. Its keeping me from The Waste Lands.

The first time I read To Kill A Mockingbird I kept getting it confused with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, too. Lol. I do want to read that one also at some point!

Makes me feel a little less mad!
I've found Mockingbird to be unputdownable this weekend - I'd forgotten how great it is.

I'll be sad when it's over. Most books have boring parts even just a few or smaller parts...but, I've had none yet with Mockingbird and I don't reckon that's going to happen either.
I find that, even though it is a little girl's point of view Scout, or Harper Lee, always stays happy or somewhat light-hearted, even when dealing with these serious matters. What a powerful writing-style this is!

This is the best book I have ever read and probably will read in the foreseeable future. Truthfully, if I could give this book 10 stars I would have done so.
Scout and Jem are the best kid characters I have ever had the privilege to meet through a story. I loved every second of their childhood even when nothing seemed to be happening. And now that I've finished it I think that is the real story of the book; Just two kids growing up in Maycomb around 1930/1940. Sounds boring, but it is everything but boring. The people in the small Alabama town are so vivid it's like you're really getting to know them. Some of them you'll like, some of them you'll despise, but you will know them.
The book is written through older Scout's eyes. Her recollections are so well-written it could be mine or anyones else's story, or memory of building a tree-house when you were young for example. You'll smile and laugh when the narrator feels like she's laughing. You'll feel sorry for the characters when the narrator feels sorry.
I'm actually at a loss for any more words, I'm just going to leave it here. The book is best read without any telling beforehand. Just read it and, as one of the critics wrote it best in my copy, you will want to start right over when you're through.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy.

Story flows beautifully without a dull moment. Would recommend to anyone especially those who need an introduction to fiction. This is how you compose a story.
Have recorded the film version this week but don't know if it is too soon to watch it. Can anyone comment on the adaptation?
Very surprised Mrs Lee did not attempt another novel.
Loved this book. The only thing that I hate is it left me wanting to know what happened AFTER the book. That's why I love Stephen King. His books give me something to work with. Although his short stories tend to leave me with the same feeling.

Now available for pre-order as an ebook! Release date is July 8th. I've been holding off on a reread for awhile in the hopes that it would be available as an ebook and it's finally happening. One of my all-time faves, and I can't wait to read it again.
FYI, also noticed a Separate Peace is finally availabe is an ebook.

I was also excited to see this news. I have them both in my wishlist to buy when they are released. I re-read them both last year but I will still pick up the ebooks for future re-reads. :-)
