ABANDONED. Read in Middle School, something about baseball

I read this book in my 7th grade English class. (August 2003) It took place over the course of a single day and had something to do with baseball. The main character was a boy who was probably around 13 years old. I think the plot might have involved the boy looking for something with his friends or trying to solve a mystery, but I'm not sure. We alternated between listening to an audio book and reading aloud.

I know that isn't much to go on, but I didn't think it would hurt to ask. :)

Will Weaver wrote three books about baseball and boys. Hard Ball, Farm Team, and Striking Out. I don't think they were mysteries, though.

It could be Striking Out, but that sounds way more dramatic than what I remember. I remember thinking it seemed sort of childish. It might not even be a mystery, I don't remember much about it.
